The boards outlook is far too conservative in my opinion7 Jul 2020 21:14
The main problem was the downturn in motoring revenue because of les driving and the stores being run dark or whatever it's called! But as they say themselves from the following part of the RNS people are now driving more so this side is improving:-
"Motoring revenue was down -45.4% LFL, reflecting a material drop in car journeys across the UK impacting this higher margin category. We have seen improving trends in Motoring in recent weeks as the lockdown has eased, boosted by the performance of stores open for customer browsing in the 'Lite' format. Essential categories performed well after the gradual increase of cars on the road, with batteries and battery care products in high demand."
So if this recovers, and the bike sales continue plus later in year electric scooter sales when IMHO they are legalised then Halfords are going to be doing very well indeed. This scenario seems likley to me. The only way IMHO it won't play out is is the UK is locked down again, and even then we know Halfords will survive, which is more than can be said for most retail!!!
All IMHO.
