In the news today a Company has had some success identifyting men with certain DNA traits (from saliva) that makes them more likely to get prostate cancer. Genedrive have 2 kits so far. What about a new one for exctly this?....................

Aminoglycoside antibiotics which are commonly used in all hospitals. Genedrive promote use in neonatal clinics so babies can be tested to make sure they won't have a bad reaction and go deaf. The NHS "Strategy Opportunities for Medical Technology Products" says "Point of care molecular testing to determine antibiotic treatment of early-onset neonatal infection, late-onset neonatal infection. e.g.. sepsis, primarily in neonates ****but could be used for Renal, Cystic Fibrosis or other patients eligible for aminoglycosides that require a fast/urgent response.***".

This points out the test can be used for people of all ages.

I thought only newborn babies can be deafened by this type of antibiotic. All ages can by the looks. From Wikipedia:-

So, people of any age should be tested to make sure they won't have a bad reaction and end up completely deaf!!! So, the Genedrive MT-RNR1 has a massively bigger market than I thought.

MT-RNR1 to be used in community hospitals? 500 Nr. ?? As well as the main hospitals and all the neonatal ones!!

Waiting for the lab result that will take several hours and sometimes days? Of course they could use the bedside, small photocopier sized Genedrive machine instead. Then they need only cross their fingers for about 40 mins. And, indeed wait at the bedside in case the patient takes a sudden turn for the worse? LOL!.

(via Angle's dual analysis) if a cancer patient is suitable for a cancer drug that targets a particular biomarker seems extremely likely, does it not? I think the penny has dropped with Illumina as they are now working closely with Angle. I find it totally astonishing that (as far as I know) other DNA analysis companies are not queuing up to work with Angle. The market for this must be in the tens of millions, or more.

I think speed of treatment is essental with sepsis and so the patient might be dead by the time a lab test result is received. Lab test are often just too slow.

Analysis. Should appear on both Angle's WEB page and Illumina’s site if all goes according to plan. Dual analysis being the DNA analysis of blood (fragments of DNA in the blood) and CTC DNA analysis (circulating tumour cell DNA analysis) also found in the blood of someone who has cancer. Using the dual analysis about TWICE the amount of cancer "biomarkers" can be found. Biomarkers can indicate if a person’s cancer is more liable to respond to certain modern treatments that can home in on (target) cancerous cells. Angle already offer dual analysis as a service. Angle, working with Illumina, have already developed an Illumina 79 gene lung cancer assay panel. Presumably, they are working on similar for other cancers. Also Angle, as a service at the moment, can use the NuProbe pan cancer assay panel. See previous RNS's. One would think that all the Companies that currently sell cancer treatments that work by targeting biomarkers are very interested in potentially finding twice as many suitable patients for their treatment. We will see.

NHS finally taking on board testing babies to make sure they won't go deaf after receiving antibiotics is a tad important to parents, doctors and nurses!!!
