Thanks Reff-didn't realise went ex-d already. Volume picking up a bit. But all small trades-is that usual? Notice the 2 trades around noon-100 some thousand each-can't see them now-wondering what those were. Agree seems overreaction-all fundamentals seem fine-have not heard any changes last few months-I invest with them & very happy-well run organisation. Did see that valuation was a bit high-over 20 p/e on last yr earnings.
Anyone hear any news today? Share goes ex-div tomorrow so that can't be it. Volume on the light side. Anything happen at AGM yesterday? Any thoughts welcome-thanks.
Student967-Here's a start- The Little Book of Behavioral Investing: How Not to be Your Own Worst Enemy (Little Books, Big Profits (UK)) by James Montier (28 Jan 2010)- good starter-Montier is with Grantham Mayo in Boston-very good value investors. Richard H. Thaler’s The Winner’s Curse-a great read. And-Thinking, Fast and Slow (Daniel Kahneman)-one of the bibles of behavioural finance. Good luck.
student967- spot on. I've been trading for over 35 years(different markets-AIM for maybe 10 on and off)-do your research for sure if you're going to hold for long-term. But anything shorter we must follow crowd behaviour. AIM very similar to Bulletin Board in States-these small markets are the closest examples to pure behavioural trading theory(I can suggest some reading for you). Short term-play the crowd, even for long term entry points. Good luck-I'm still making lots of mistakes. And don't second guess your opinions/thoughts-they're all welcome.
Julian- Can't understand price action either. But-have you noticed the heavy volume last 8 days-average about 1.7 million per day vs. the previous 8 days of about 250,000 shares per day. Also look at the size of some of the trades today: 700,000/450,000/300,000 etc. That's not private investors-notice the large buys from 12 May posted today. Maybe MMs short trying to coax shares down? Certainly is putting the fear of G-d in the minds of the little guys.
WatchMaverick- This gives Bush's total comp but doesn't give details-will look further- http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/people/person.asp?personId=99491014&ticker=NOP:LN
Further corroboration of Papekop valuation-this is from Westfield report 2-4-14- http://www.parkmeadgroup.com/uploaded/research/Westhouse_Research_02.04.2014.pdf See p. 11
Take a look at this: http://www.parkmeadgroup.com/uploaded/research/Charles_Stanley_PMG_Davaar_Update_19022014.pdf This is from a Charles Stanley report on Parkmead-dated 19-2-14 See p. 8-Netherland Oil & Gas Assets- Parkmead has 15% working interest in asset-see valuation-looks like the same Papekop
From same RNS- Net Profit Interests The Posidonia NPI grants Northern a 10 per cent interest in any net operating profit generated from the production of oil or gas from unconventional reservoirs, which is primarily the Posidonia shale sequence. This payment will be calculated net of operating and development capital expenditure.
Oogle-more on sale of Dutch assets- following taken from RNS dated 1-10-13- Net Profit Interests The Papekop NPI grants Northern a 20 per cent interest in any net operating profit generated from the Papekop oil and gas discovery, if it is developed and brought into production. This is calculated after the deduction of operating expenditure and the recovery of development expenditure. If the interest in the licence is sold within one year, Northern will receive 80 per cent of the proceeds, after Vermilion has recovered its expenditure to that point. If the interest is sold by Vermilion after one year, but before a field development plan is approved, Northern will receive 20 per cent of the proceeds after cost recovery by Vermilion and keep a 20 per cent net profit interest. P.S. Maverick was one of my favourite TV series. P.P.S. More of sale of Dutch assets coming.
Oogle or anyone else- Keith mentioned that the 3 producing wells had to be tied-in so as to avoid present trucking costs. Can anyone tell me how long this takes or is it just a straightforward choice of using the present infrastructure or sharing with Apache? Thanks.
Thanks Poetical-saw that-was just querying why the spread went out 26-26.75 last nite without a trade.
That last trade at 16:10 was a sale at 25.25
Didn't catch late trading. Only see last trade timed at 16:10 @ 25.375. Anybody see late pop in stock the last 1/2 hour? Jolly, any thoughts?
Not sure if everyone has seen this- http://www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk/companies/news/68165/northern-petroleum-canada-could-transform-this-oversold-oil-development-play-68165.html Thanks Mikey, oogle, Poetical , Julian for excellent background info about company.
