So many stocks over the years come with many rumours which you just follow and sit tight... I bought The Times on Thursday and mentioned that Zurich would only offer cash if the deal were accepted. Possibly because they wouldn't want to go down similar route as Verizon did with Vodafone and list the stock on LSE so they could offer part stock and part cash. This must be my 13th m&a deal I remember being part of in my 17yrs with my stocks and shares. Boots - went private with KKR Scottish Power - Iberdrola Carlsberg - forgotten who bought them from me Xstrata - Glencore Safeways - WMorrisons Cadburys - Kraft Arriva - Deutsche Bahnhoff SSL - Reckitt Alliance&Leicester - Santander Rexam - BALL pending Can't remember the other few iv been lucky with ... I take what you are saying, but morningstar.co.uk quote full year div of 3%... How can that be when the tax rate is like 30% on Spanish dividend with-holding tax... Think I will call my stock broker...

....Rushing to put question on board before leaving my house. Think the dividend yield got mixed up with percentage drop. I would agree with anyone talking about divi cut when stock is over 6+% for too long especially when eps barerly covers it, if not at all.

Are commodities the best place to invest with pending interest rates in US? I would side with absolute caution on that note... Current ield is well over 6.5% and has already fallen an astonishing 65% from 1900p level. I hold BLT, RO, BP, RDSB in commodity sector. Overweight RIO

Hi all, Just a query as to what's the true dividend rate of this stock to UK shareholders after the tax. I know there is different tax rates applied for different people. Im just going to pop in here every month and see what happens over the coming months ahead with outside factors in markets. At the minute thinking of selling my JNJ and NVS as they have done well in this sector, doubled, and use that..

Results tomorrow... Just caught this on MF regarding ABBVIE's merger with Shire, just like PFE's merger with AZN. The ftse has fallen for several reasons. AZN had poor results on an eye drug, and GSK had the earnings growth projection lowered by Deutsche Bank. Plus US had some bad results lastnight from Apple and more so Microsoft., plus maybe cause were getting closer to when Yellen is going to have rates rise in USA. Some traders in US I hear they have options on August 24th... Its anyones guess for that... ATB

Just thinking... Does anyone select stocks based on buying the best stock in that sector and possibly the worst with hope the worst outperforms the best? Not saying it's the worst, but looking at Hansard Global ( HsD), with 8.12% div, currently at 10year low, with a steadily improving business... Holder of SL.

Hi notgreedy, so the 4750p could well ring true to this theory of sp going lower. I believe the headwinds will continue to be the dollar & pound strength, and ADHD drug being hit by competition from other pharma firms.

I also have an eye on Santander at 10.15% though think the cash would be taxed at Spanish rate, so would have to take share option to save on that.

We all know what happened with credit crunch and effects on shareprices it had. Lots of companies had to shed/tighten dividend payouts... The biggest fall in FTSE in my honest view has happened, still have interest rate rises be it end of year? We've nearly had 9.6% drop in FTSE's high, and that is just on small jitters with China, and if's & a's. Hansard has held up nicely over last 14days. Looking over 10yrs still looks good. I still have my eye on Hansard just don't know what direction or zone its in at the minute... I recently bought SL. GNK, VCT, AZN, RR & BA., Still I have my last £4500 and its either here or a top up on GSK?

Dividend yield of stocks always being one of the main reasons for buying them, Glaxosmithkline's current 6.05% dividend is looking more unsafe with the current volatility unfolding. If it were to go to 1250p that is a bottom in my view and would give 6.66%. Liberum brokers have aired their views that the dividend is becoming unstainable at current levels. Its was between RR. BA. BAB, HILS, WEIR, COB. I chose RR, BA. And VCT in engineering sector with my CASH ISA on Thursday morning. Suppose looking at the hostorical earnings numbers we have been through the worst numbers so far, and can only get better! The strong pound will be a savour for all UK companies at the minute and will help loads through this year... I now own REX, BA. RR. And VCT in this sector ATB

Zceb90 & Mulder, I'd be careful what you are trying to predict, which by the way you are talking seems to show you haven't a clue... Commodities ( oil & miners ), are susceptible to high volatility from strengthening & weakening to lesser extent now going forward. With the possibility of interest rates rising in US due to good economic data that would strengthen the $ and thus all companies ( oil & miners ) would have see sp fall further. P.S all comodities trade in $. I hold commdities in form of BLT, RIO, South 32, Hunting, BP, RDSB and a real bar of gold and silver. Further, I read in The Timespaper back in .ay that BHP Billition would NOT be paying a final dividend. I will have to look this article out ... ATB.
