“With the aim of recognizing the management of the company SolGold (Exploraciones Novomining S.A), the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition (MAATE) made official the delivery of the "Green Initiative Distinction", for the results obtained through the Reforestation Program. 1M: planting of native species and rehabilitation of disturbed areas.” The event took place today, March 15, 2024, in Quito and was chaired by Nancy Sarrade, Undersecretary of Environmental Quality of the MAATE.
In that sense, the 1M Program intervened 172.48 hectares, where 226,689 native forest species were planted with the support and participation of the staff of the Cotacachi Cayapas National Park, which reflects the joint work between the private sector and the National Government.
During her speech, Undersecretary Sarrade congratulated the company for its achievement and reaffirmed the Ministry's support for initiatives that promote environmental sustainability, "these actions are proof that legal and responsible mining is possible, implementing actions that go beyond of current environmental regulations and always ensuring the development of Ecuadorians,” he stated.
For his part, Scott Caldwell, president of SolGold Ecuador, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in contributing towards a more sustainable development of the country, "we are proud to receive this recognition, the first for a mining exploration company in the country, which "It reflects our unwavering commitment to caring for the environment," he said.
The Green Point initiative is an institutional mark granted by the Ministry of the Environment to companies whose activities are aimed at optimizing natural resources in their production and consumption processes, in order to reduce negative environmental impacts towards the natural environment, in especially in sensitive ecosystems and thereby improve the quality of life of our citizens.
