This year, we worked with more than 3,000 partners in government, research and industry to deliver an 8.8:1 return on every dollar invested into CSIRO, equating to $13.2 billion in economic, environmental and social benefit to the nation.

Some of the results we delivered this year include:

We strengthened Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' representation within CSIRO, increasing to 2.5 per cent of our staff in 2024.

We increased our Intellectual Property licencing revenue to grow by 22 per cent to $61 million, our best result in 9 years.

Main Sequence venture fund, created to manage the CSIRO Innovation Fund, surpassed $1 billion in funds under management and invested in 8 new companies, helping to create more than 2,200 deep technology jobs.

This work is a key step in our strategy to deliver a rare earth Mineral Resource Estimate at Boland this year, and we look forward to announcing the full results of the drill programme once samples have been prepared for optimisation metallurgy by ANSTO.

Members of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation ("CSIRO") team have also been with us in the field as they work on a programme focused on strengthening the supply of critical minerals in Australia. CSIRO have collected samples from both our sonic and aircore drilling programmes which will be used to help characterise our unique geology and mineralogy at Boland, informing our pathway towards ISR-supported rare earth production."

Our CEO Rupert Verco told industry bible Mining Journal las week that the escalating tariff war is a "shot up the backside" for miners and Western governments.The article, which is available to subscribers of Mining Journal, notes Cobra has “the potential to become a low-cost producer as Boland's material is concentrated in permeable sands so the product can be extracted by a simple, low cost ISR method.”

The article observes Cobra could be “sitting on top of two of the most valuable heavy rare earths…used in magnets in electric cars, wind turbines and electrical goods.”
