Iran war, day 35 - what you need to know
We're updating this post as developments happen - live updates continue below it.
Has Iran downed a US fighter jet? Iranian media is reporting that a US F-35 fighter jet has been shot down. People in Iran have been asked to hunt for downed pilots, according to state media. The US is yet to confirm the claim, and last night dismissed an earlier similar boast by Iran as false.
'A little more time': Donald Trump has claimed that, with a "little more time", the Strait of Hormuz can be easily opened. In a vague Truth Social post, Trump suggested doing so would allow the world to "take the oil" and "make a fortune".
Future of Hormuz: The UN Security Council will vote later on a proposal to authorise defensive action to ensure shipping vessels can use the Strait of Hormuz. It follows the UK chairing a virtual summit with more than 40 countries to discuss the future of the strait on Thursday, with sanctions on Iran to be considered if it continues to disrupt traffic.
'Bridges next, then electric power plants': Overnight, Trump threatened to destroy more bridges in Iran after strikes tore into the country's biggest, reportedly killing at least eight people. He also said he'd target electricity plants if Tehran doesn't do "what has to be done".
Iran says 'bring it on': It comes after Iran's parliamentary speaker, in response to Trump's previous threats in his TV address on Wednesday, warned Iranians will "bleed" to defend their nation, adding: "You're gonna meet the whole family. Locked, loaded and standing tall".
Lebanon invasion: Meanwhile, 15 European nations have demanded an end to Israel's invasion of Lebanon, as it expands its fight against Iran-backed Hezbollah militants.
