The latest Investing Matters Podcast with Jean Roche, Co-Manager of Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust has just been released. Listen here.
My thoughts exactly. Having seen Taylor Wimpey get walked down by 6% on Wednesday for the most tenuous of reasons (non-dom clampdown plus tax change for buy-to-let), then rise right back up again the next day, I always suspect that it might just be an MM try-on when I see a sharp fall apparently for no reason. I know everyone always blames 'MM games' when a share they hold falls, but I suspect that when a share price stagnates for a bit they must be tempted to put the price down a bit and see what happens - if it sparks a sell-off then they soak up a load of discounted shares as they knock out stop-losses and weakly-resolved private investors, then sell the shares back into the market at a nice easy little profit. All allegedly of course...
...as Chinese markets slide, Chinese investors look to invest in companies listed on other markets and pile into AIM-listed JQW...
of this surely short-term dip to get in here at the same price as the Naked Trader's last tranche. Delighted to be in here, if only for the Bing-bang Song (Peppa Pig)!
Well, time will tell I guess. I'm going to hold on and see what happens here.
...with inat9.5p and Lotech. Leaving aside the fact that if something seems too go to be true it often is, I'd say that, if you can satisfy yourself that this company is on balance of probability basically above board and legit, then it's probably a no-brainer to have a punt if you have some spare cash which you're happy to take a bit of a leap into the unknown with. With the possibility of dividends being reinstated, this could fly, while the divi itself could be a nice little payout with all that cash (apparently) in the bank. I might even pluck up the courage to average down myself at this level. GLA and fingers crossed!
Yes. Clearly didn't impress the markets though as the SP subsequently tanked further. Also from the RNS: "The Board is in late stage discussions to appoint a new UK-based broker, who will focus on introducing new investors to the Company in the coming months." Do you know of any news on this? If everything is above board and on track then the current SP is hugely anomalous, and anyone holding with a reasonably low average price really could be sitting on a goldmine...
Wow - a divi of around 10% for anyone who bought just before it went ex-divi for the 2014 special. Mind you I guess the fact that the SP fell off a cliff when it went ex-div, and then continued in a downward spiral, largely negated negated it. Let's hope they start paying dividends again - particularly if it's anything approaching the 2014 level. Certainly wouldn't do the SP any harm at all.
they paid out 5.2p per share?? Really??? Surely that's a misplaced decimal point?!?
"did not cancel the dividend" - well no, you're quite right. As you rightly say, they just didn't follow up on their last year's dividend this year, despite having loads of cash in the bank. And AFAIK they gave no reason for doing so. It would be great if they could start communicating with shareholders about strategy, KPIs, future goals and targets, dividend forecasts etc etc etc. Rather than the wall of silence that we're currently getting. Still, lots more buying this morning, and the SP is up again. So maybe their current strategy - whatever it is - is working...
If that's their intention they would have done well to have given an indication of this at the time when they announced they were cancelling the divi. All bets are off IMO - maybe Mr Boon just ran off with all the money... ;-)
Indeed. And if JQW is a fraud, they certainly pulled the wool over the eyes of the writers at Investors' Chronicle, who only eight months ago were very bullish about the company: http://www.investorschronicle.co.uk/2014/09/11/tips-and-ideas/share-tips/cash-in-on-alibaba-float-frenzy-with-jqw-iDVEb0iQSGJLZM5MlyZXGJ/article.html You would hope that they (IC) had at least done a bit of research into the company - enough to establish its probity.
this morning - must be all our bullish talk and ramping here!
Yes, something doesn't add up - literally! Come on JQW, if you're serious about the future then let's see some decent investor communication and maybe some effective corporate PR!
hmmmmm... I'd have preferred you to have said something like "don't worry mate, I have it good authority that a big buy-out is imminent."
<echo>hello... ...hello... ...hello... ...hello...</echo> Yep me. Big % loss if I sell now, so I'm hanging on for grim death. If JQW is genuinely the main competitor to Alibaba in their home market than they're surely a bargain at this price - profit making, debt free (I think) etc etc. But who knows - maybe it's just some crazy guy in a shed...
I might add that I have just put my money where my mouth is and given today's volume a little boost with a small top-up. All good!
Very low volumes currently, keeping the SP in the doldrums. Highly news-driven share I guess. I'd anticipate a favourable write-up/broker recommendation shortly on the back of these very positive numbers, which should drive a bit of buying activity. Certainly agree re. nothing to worry about and top-up on dips/retrace.
Indeed not. Anyone know any reason for the sharp drop?
Hiya cmc, hows about a cheerful post from you here today! ;-) Nice to see it rising back towards its true worth, hopefully onwards and upwards henceforward...
