Today in Warsaw, the "Sectoral Agreement for the Development of the Hydrogen Economy in Poland" was presented and signed. Among the signatories there were enterprises and institutions related to the broadly understood maritime economy, including the shipbuilding industry.
On the initiative of the Minister of Climate and Environment, Michal Kurtyka, representatives of the government administration, business community, science and business environment units signed, on October 14, 2021 in Warsaw, "Sectoral Agreement for the Development of the Hydrogen Economy in Poland".
The signatories of the Agreement include: Gdanska Stocznia Remontowa, Remontowa Shipbuilding, Forum Okretowe, Polish Register of Shipping, ProjMors, Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Port of Gdynia, ARP, PKN Orlen, Lotos, Gaz-System, PGNiG, Ekokonsult, ASE, WestWind Energy, Polenergia and the Polish Wind Energy Association.
More entities may still join the Covenant, but at the beginning they have been signed by 138 parties. 650 experts working, among others, were involved in its preparation. in thematic working groups which included "hydrogen for transport" and "hydrogen for industrial applications".
Hydrogen is a viable alternative to fossil fuels and will enable the decarbonisation of the most energy-intensive sectors of the economy, with appropriate technology development. The sector agreement will be the key implementing instrument of the Polish Hydrogen Strategy until 2030 with an outlook until 2040.
The agreement is to enable the maximization of the Polish contribution in the entire value chain of hydrogen technologies. In the "hydrogen sector", this contribution is expected to reach 50 percent of the value in 2030, and the value-added for the Polish economy related to hydrogen technologies may amount to EUR 870.
The sectoral agreement will support the achievement of up to 2 GW of electrolyser capacity for the production of renewable hydrogen by 2030. It defines strategic goals in five areas: Polish local content, research and development, investments, people and cooperation. It is also intended to support the development of profitable models for the production, storage and supply of low-emission and renewable hydrogen, as well as to build cooperation to represent Poland's interests in the international environment of the hydrogen sector.
The document also provides, inter alia, building "hydrogen awareness" in society. It is planned, inter alia, updating training programs in order to build human resources for the Polish hydrogen sector in the economy.
The conclusion of this agreement is a continuation of the process that began on July 7, 2020 with the signing of the "Letter of Intent to establish a partnership to build a hydrogen economy and conclude a hydrogen sectoral agreement".
Michal Kurtyka, Minister of Climate and Environment, pointed out that Poland, as the first country in the European Union, after the anno
Autosan showed off a hydrogen-powered bus. The Sancity 12LFH is a 12-meter low-floor vehicle. It was designed on the basis of an electric bus.
The Sancity 12LFH bus uses an electric motor with a fuel cell power module. The energy storage is lithium-titanium batteries and H2 tanks.
Autosan does not specify the range of its new hydrogen vehicle. The range of another hydrogen bus, which is already produced in our country - also the 12-meter Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen - is to be up to 350 kilometers.
Autosan emphasizes that the new hydrogen vehicle is another bus in its offer powered by alternative fuels. It joined the low-emission gas and electric vehicles already in series production.
The company from Sanok is a party to the letter of intent regarding the establishment of the Subcarpathian Hydrogen Valley. The main goal of this initiative is to take steps to build and develop a hydrogen economy in Podkarpacie.
The bus manufacturer is also one of the entities forming the Sanocka Wodorowa Valley Energy Cluster, the aim of which is to create conditions in Sanok for the development of green hydrogen technology for the needs of, among others, municipal public transport.
Konin is to be the first Polish city in which passengers will be transported by a hydrogen-powered bus. The Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen will be delivered there and will be leased to the city for 4 years. Solaris will deliver a hydrogen-powered vehicle to Konin next year. However, this year, the first freely accessible hydrogen refueling station in Poland is to be built there.
So far, Solaris has already delivered over 80 Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen to carriers from Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden and Italy, and it may soon win orders for more vehicles of this type in our country.
Hydrogen buses for other cities in Poland
The appearance of hydrogen buses in other Polish cities should be supported by the program of co-financing the purchase of zero-emission buses run by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.
The applications accepted by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in this year's recruitment under the Green Public Transport program assume co-financing for the purchase of a total of 431 zero-emission buses - including about 100 hydrogen buses. The applicants also planned the construction of approximately 180 electric bus charging stations and 2 hydrogen refueling stations.
Recently, under this program, the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management will grant the Górnoslasko-Zaglebie Metropolis a subsidy in the amount of PLN 81 million for the purchase of 20 hydrogen buses.
The total value of the investment carried out by GZM is PLN 110.7 million, with the eligible costs amounting to PLN 90 million, and the grant from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management will cover 90 percent. of them, which is PLN 81 million. The project
I thought we had a Peel director on board so why is he not putting his head above the wall and explain the delay in completing the SPV. Yes they were given to the end of the month but really the world can’t wait!!!!!!!!
I've just been re reading the article in Gasworld concerning the link up between Linde and HUI. I'm unsure why the BOD have downplayed that announcement. Linde and HUI have said they are final stage of signing an agreement. I can't understand the denial by powerhouse. Presumably this initial agreement is between Linde and HUI and altogether extremely important to both parts does not effect us directly. Any deal between PHE and Linde will be the subject of a separate agreement.
I don' know whether I've got the wrong impression. No doubt someone will explain if I have this wrong.
Thanks Doc A for all your hard work hope we get some answers/explanations.
I have just watched the opening session of the Chester/Warrington Zero Carbon Tour at the Thornton Science Park. (Planet Mark blue bus touring the UK on the way to COP26)
What struck me immediately was the mention in the opening few minutes of a visit to Protos yesterday. Mention was made of a system to turn plastic into hydrogen together with the glass plant (product 40% of all glass for the UK) which will use hydrogen in the manufacturing process.
The rep from Plant Mark then asked whether anybody from Protos/Peel were attending this seminar. It would seem nobody could be bothered to attend. Not even Powerhouse who have workshops on the science park.
What is going on – another example to add to the litany of failed opportunities. Perhaps if we ever get to speak to a Director /Manager we can ask a few questions?
I've asked Powerhouse/Peel for their comments.
I’ve had today an email invitation to a tour of the Warrington/ Chester zero carbon site coming from the Energy Centre at Thornton Science Park. It come through Eventbrite
Has anybody else had this? Can’t think it’s a scam. Interesting timing!!
Just wondering whether anybody has the ear of Howard to find his feeling at the current situation. As a substantial shareholder presumably he has some interest in the direction and speed of development. I believe Telephoneman and/or Dr A both have pipelines so prehaps one of you can approach him? Might be an avenue to pursue?
I hope we have a feed into this - the sought of thing we should be a party to -
The Zero-emission Bus Summit will see central government and local authority representatives, bus operators, manufacturers, policy makers and other stakeholders gather at City hall to push forward the adoption of zero-emission buses across the country.
Further to the information below received this overnight -

Do we see further raises on Monday or has it been built in over the past week?
I see pa is still required to be filed at this late stage. Surely this should have been submitted and granted long ago. No wonder we have these delays!??
21/03219/DIS discharge of Condition 30 building colour and roof cladding.
Hello all, with all the talk of TY going I wonder where exactly we are regarding the first build. If anybody is passing I think we would all be appreciative to have an update on the access road and anything else happening on the site.
Many thanks for all the interesting comments - keep them coming please.
I see Protos are holding a Q&A session tonight. Time scale for the first build must be one of the questions? I suspect we are waiting the build next door of the material handling unit.
Keep the faith!!!
