Today in Warsaw, the "Sectoral Agreement for the Development of the Hydrogen Economy in Poland" was presented and signed. Among the signatories there were enterprises and institutions related to the broadly understood maritime economy, including the shipbuilding industry.
On the initiative of the Minister of Climate and Environment, Michal Kurtyka, representatives of the government administration, business community, science and business environment units signed, on October 14, 2021 in Warsaw, "Sectoral Agreement for the Development of the Hydrogen Economy in Poland".
The signatories of the Agreement include: Gdanska Stocznia Remontowa, Remontowa Shipbuilding, Forum Okretowe, Polish Register of Shipping, ProjMors, Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Port of Gdynia, ARP, PKN Orlen, Lotos, Gaz-System, PGNiG, Ekokonsult, ASE, WestWind Energy, Polenergia and the Polish Wind Energy Association.
More entities may still join the Covenant, but at the beginning they have been signed by 138 parties. 650 experts working, among others, were involved in its preparation. in thematic working groups which included "hydrogen for transport" and "hydrogen for industrial applications".
Hydrogen is a viable alternative to fossil fuels and will enable the decarbonisation of the most energy-intensive sectors of the economy, with appropriate technology development. The sector agreement will be the key implementing instrument of the Polish Hydrogen Strategy until 2030 with an outlook until 2040.
The agreement is to enable the maximization of the Polish contribution in the entire value chain of hydrogen technologies. In the "hydrogen sector", this contribution is expected to reach 50 percent of the value in 2030, and the value-added for the Polish economy related to hydrogen technologies may amount to EUR 870.
The sectoral agreement will support the achievement of up to 2 GW of electrolyser capacity for the production of renewable hydrogen by 2030. It defines strategic goals in five areas: Polish local content, research and development, investments, people and cooperation. It is also intended to support the development of profitable models for the production, storage and supply of low-emission and renewable hydrogen, as well as to build cooperation to represent Poland's interests in the international environment of the hydrogen sector.
The document also provides, inter alia, building "hydrogen awareness" in society. It is planned, inter alia, updating training programs in order to build human resources for the Polish hydrogen sector in the economy.
The conclusion of this agreement is a continuation of the process that began on July 7, 2020 with the signing of the "Letter of Intent to establish a partnership to build a hydrogen economy and conclude a hydrogen sectoral agreement".
