George Frangeskides, Chairman at ALBA, explains why the Pilbara Lithium option ‘was too good to miss’. Watch the video here.
@flashy - what a lot of people are missing here is that the Innova test is invasive and not pleasant to administer. So many people are put off doing them, and then so many are done wrong in the self test setting that the accuracy drops a lot. Surely the government would want an easy to administer test that people are A) more likely to do, and B) more likely to do properly.
@computer - If there is a more accurate LFT available which has been evaluated in a self test setting and passed as acceptable, could that LFT become a ‘green light’ test and do away with the need for a confirmatory PCR?
The key here is for it to have been rigorously tested in a self test setting. I’m not saying Vistect/AffiDx would definitely pass this but Innova definitely hasn’t after 80m+ tests being performed. Also if the government move towards isolating the infectious rather than just anyone with the virus in their system then that’s where LFTs will come into their own.
“In the meantime, Omega is currently supporting the Government with additional cassetting and pouching services for other COVID-19 antigen lateral flow tests that are being deployed in the UK.”
Who for and for how much? Surely has to be Surescreen or Innova doesn’t it? Does anyone with a more technical background know how labour intensive it is and if it’s a decent money spinner? Nice to know Omega are working with the government still and actually producing something for them even if it’s not the manufacturing we hope will happen soon.
Hardly Computer. They all haven’t been checked scientifically against gold standard tests. Self administered tests that produce negative results will never be checked against PCR. How many are incorrect? Also how many people test positive and don’t bother confirming with PCR? I bet it’s significant. The initial pilot trials are a different matter but those results weren’t too good!
FFB - you can’t say you haven’t attacked or been negative over Omega. A browse through your posting history shows that any opportunity you had you would post negative things. Now I don’t dispute that there are reasoned arguments to some of your comments and I actually dislike the blind rampers just as much as the incessant derampers. Some of the points you make are perfectly valid, however... the problem I had and I believe others also, is that you seemed to take every opportunity to attack the company and seemed to delight in seeing it perform poorly SP wise. Reasoned debate even if negative should be welcomed but outright consistently attacking seemed to suggest another agenda. Maybe you have hit your buy in price hence the softening of your tone? I don’t know but I’m happy to see a more balanced approach to your posts.
LFT testing down to 4.6 million a week unfortunately and only a peak of 7 million. I just think the barbaric Innova LFT is putting people off. I’m pretty much the only person I know that does them twice a week and that’s because of work. People just don’t want to stick things right up their nose and down their throat. Two things need to happen: a government drive advertising the benefit of doing them and a much less invasive test.
Easy mistake to make, the spreadsheet isn’t easy reading being so big
JAdam the 314079 was a transaction number. The payment was £2.4m :-)
Utter stupidity to post three topics one after the other about the same thing and clog up the board
Much better comms. Almost seem well thought out. As I’ve stated before, there’s a place for the RNS and Twitter if both used correctly. RNS is the official investor relations, Twitter is for advertising and a bit more informal meat to the bones. Twitter is NOT for jokey comments to your investor ‘mates’. Well done ODX - much better.
@Eazy verbal reasoning was never my strongpoint :-)
@greggs Not clear, sorry. How the samples were taken for the validation is what I meant
So just to clear up any confusion... Was this whole validation done using self testing? And what was the testing method? AN or brain tickler?
Aren’t the ODX latest results from a self sampling trial? Pretty good if so and meets WHO regs. The Avct comparison of this will be very interesting as I suppose that’s the main area to look at if it’s going to be a home use test.
There is absolutely a place for tweets and advertising the benefits of a business. Just not the way it was done previously from ODX. RNSs are of course the official comms for investors although a wider reach can be found with alternative means especially in a digital world. Let’s have a sensible mix of both.
Quite annoying how the company’s social media has been so poor. Ramp ramp ramp tweets, followed by poor RNS, followed by ramping tweets, followed by ‘Tesla Gate’.
Why couldn’t they just be professional and tweet like grown ups and a company that’s reputable. There has been a bit of radio silence after the Tesla tweet so now it’s time for them to slowly rebuild their comms with factual well written social media highlighting the positives of the company. I understand the need to step back and regroup the comms team after such a poor performance but as a company that used social media so much previously, they could do with a steady well thought out PR push in line with how a listed company should be acting. Full on silence causes more problems than it solves. No need for a ramp tastic tweeting machine, just facts and figures on a timely basis. Come on Omega, give us some decent info.
Dated today in the FT. Happy to hear if it’s rehashed from elsewhere but it’s in the news today
Looking at going on holiday soon to Portugal if possible so I’ve been checking the requirements on Gov.uk
Basically says that no matter what you need a negative test in the 3 days before departure to arrive in the U.K. Not allowed to use NHS tests but.... (and quoted direct)
“Types of test
You must make sure that the test provider you choose can meet the standards for pre-departure testing.
The test must meet performance standards of >97% specificity, >80% sensitivity at viral loads above 100,000 copies/ml.
This could include tests such as:
.... PCR, LAMP (blah blah)...
An antigen test, such as a lateral flow device.
It’s your responsibility to ensure the test meets the minimum standards.”
There is going to be a huge private market if this is adopted for the long term and also worldwide. I know there’s lots of competition but there’s room for all.
Nice Twitter thread. Interesting read

Mentions that a future U.K. diagnostics industry is being developed called ‘Project Defend’ and seems to suggest GAD is being lined up for this. Later says Omega Diagnostics have a contract for Covid-19 LFTs. The way it initially reads says GAD is project defend and Omega is purely for Covid-19. Could be poorly written or poor journalism.
Also mentions huge contracts to Innova for 100s of millions of tests and the need to reduce reliance on China.
However, LFTs key to unlocking economy on June 21. Broadly positive article and nice to have ODX mentioned.
