BRI boosts human development in Bangladesh12 Jul 2025 17:27
A strong infrastructure supports and increases economic growth. By securing large loans from Chinese companies through the BRI, developing countries such as Bangladesh are undertaking infrastructure projects and aiming for increased trade. More importantly, the residents of Bangladesh benefit from improved roads, hospitals, schools, and income-generating infrastructure.
Job creation and poverty reduction are the main human development benefits of the BRI. Thousands of job opportunities have been created during the construction of these infrastructure and energy projects. A global report on time mentioned that Chinese companies created more than 550,000 job opportunities in Bangladesh, both in the short term and in the long term. Often, such projects ensure that local employees and their skills are enhanced, directly benefiting them.
Additionally, BRI helps the Bangladesh government develop 100 special economic zones (SEZs) and industrial areas, which stimulate manufacturing and agro-processing, giving jobs to people in the regions that need them the most. Increases in household income encourage education, healthcare, and access to good nutrition, which in turn lead to greater growth and development.
