Then the darker side to the last year under the Yunus regime is he’s looked after the pathetic tree hugging policies around the edges of major decisions…..he’s ordered tree planting,he’s banned plastic,cottage industry quarrying and brick making …..shoved up gas and electric prices,protected the cats and the fish and elephants,he’s kept intact and exacerbated poverty in his beloved Bangladesh……well you would wouldn’t you if you were the inventor of the Grammeen loan system to the poor…?…..no poor people equals no Grammeen loans!!

Outlook

It is apparent from the forementioned Seminar and its action-orientated title: "Prospects and Challenges of Bangladesh's Coal Resources and Measures to Overcome", the Government is serious regarding developing its domestic coal resources. It is also apparent from the fact that the Presentation to the Seminar by Ministry officials highlighted the benefits of developing the Phulbari coal mine that the GCM Project is on their radar as an important non-import coal supply solution.

Against this backdrop, it appears the outlook for moving the Project forward has greatly improved and that it is now more the question of when. In the analysis of "when", considerations will involve the sense of urgency driven by the country's economic position and the election schedule. With regard to the former, the economy is reported to remain under pressure with respect to foreign exchange reserves, inflation and purchasing power of the local currency. Compounding this is the mounting uncertainties within the world economy and the suspension of foreign aid by the US government. Regarding the latter, the mainstream political parties are calling for an early election to restore democracy and shore up law and order, however, the Chief Adviser remains circumspect and although has suggested an election by December 2025 is possible, it is also suggested this would depend on acceptance of reforms which are yet to be finalised.

To bolster public trust, Yunus has ordered a random reshuffling of officials before the polls and instructed that those involved in the last three controversial elections be assigned minimal roles. “The Chief Adviser has directed all preparations to be completed by December,” said Deputy Press Secretary Azad Majumdar.

There was an article last night on the ministry Facebook page,fresh only hours old and the headline was “Raid on illegal oil storage facility, and mobile courtroom used”…..so basically that sounds wow and the mobile kangaroo court is being implemented very regularly in Bangladesh so I clicked on the link!!……there was some poor Bangladeshi bloke being made an example of for having about 50litres of red diesel in the back of his shop.!!!…..this poor man had a small battalion of police officers and officials raid his poor establishment and confiscate the diesel and obviously rinsed him in the kangaroo court!!!

This is how India clears the fields and villages to get to the resources!…….when you look at the efforts and surveys and assessments Gcm has put into phulbari it’s admirable and will go a long way to getting this project started in the hearts and minds of the community
