08.55 - and a number of other posts.
He's been there 7 years and he was brought in to change the focus of the company (I wasn't in Tangiers but it had a very different mantra).
And before I go on I accept that the old drums of no success will be beating...and you're right, everyone would have preferred to have at least one full on success in the bag, but we don't...yet.
DW changed the focus of the company and took it from from off shore Africa to on shore Alaska, and then a single asset target HRZ to a multi prospect company. To do that he has had to do a lot of deals, take on a lot of risk and, yes, make substantial funding. That is what he always intended to do.
Generally when you look at companies that hire executives to re-shape a business they'll be there 3-5 years. I've run business transformation programmes and thats a similar timeframe its been a bit longer but in the last 2 years we've picked up a number of other opportunities to give the broad portfolio we have today.
Charlie and the central Leases
Peregrine
Umiat
Yukon and extended track 29 (ANWR)
HRZ
May be other deals in the pipeline that could come out late/post his tenure.
Now the company has a different mandate. It's not about finding extra risk, it's about appraising and developing the risks we have. Again we all want that process to go well but this can be executed by someone else that has the requisite development and production experience.
Business is like anything else in life, it doesn't stand still but doesn't mean change is bad or its forced, its just evolution and I certainly don't think anything smells off.
Anyway, enough of the solid reasoning, everyone will make up their own minds, and should do. From my perspective I'm still comfortable the risks, they haven't changed and hoping that Peregrine delivers.
