They could release results bad enough to crater the SP yet that are technically not materially different to previous guidance.

If it does jump and re-rate, it'd hardly be a compliment about the strength of the business to need Government support to keep the tills ringing and bolster the SP sentiment.

The support isn't what it seems. It's not going to solve anything but merely kick the can down the road. In of itself, it could even prove inflationary and thus perpetuate the CoLC.

Boo and retail will bounce of course (expect Boo to clear 50p this week) because of the flashy optics of it. And of course it will dupe many of the populace into believing the problem is over and so they might even do some relief spending; either way, it'll be splashed all over the tabloids and crisis averted will be, temporarily, the new buzz.

None of this is likely to be material for Boo (or ASC for that matter) results when they land at the end of September and that will probably bring the SP back down to reality with a bump; reality being roughly where it's been over the past week or so.

Their electric and gas costs will go up probably more than 5x.

Hard to see how that won't eat some bps from gross and operating margins.

Rally in retail in response to the G7 cap news I'd say; Boo has risen with that. Or maybe caused by manipulation from MMs & shorts like usual.

As odd as those who object to any mildly critical or questioning view because they claim in spreads fear. Firstly, that's assumed. Secondly, who appointed to stop it? Thirdly, if they're so convinced about their Boo, why care a jot anyway?

Psychology might call this projection: that is the attempt to assign states to others that one is actually experiencing oneself, usually because the state is too powerful to bear. Denial and/or delusion are the implied prerequisites of course.

It's really hard to believe this now looks more than odds-on - almost certain - to go 30s. Will the pomptimonious police still keep up the denial facade? As sure as the 30s they will!

Yeah I agree, the sympathetic dive in ASC in particular might offer some slight succour to the idea it's not Boo-specific.

With the SP at a distressed level, being diluted or being taken private increases in possibility.

The deterioration in this over the past year has struck all the usual notes of there being something not right that'll eventually materialise. If that does happen, it's PIs that get the biggest haircut.

An offer comfortably clear of 100p would get my vote as a tolerable exit. I'd see it as a least worst option that eliminates other more detrimental outcomes – these feel like they're starting to loom here.

Worry is cashflow has become minimal or negative which means stock for autumn and Xmas will be bought with cash from the revolver. My bet is they'll be into by another £100m at least.

Most of retail is one big falling knife at the minute. News from the UK today is only going to underline that. The smart money has largely left and it's only PIs in denial who can't countenance selling that are left as usual.

Revenue means little for valuation if what drops to the bottom line is shrinking and threatening to disappear altogether.

Growth companies (tho it hasn't convincingly met that definition for a while) are usually valued on the basis of larger future earnings. If these start to look shaky, the valuation collapses.
