Great to see the SP holding steady at around 47p above the Placement Offer.. speaks volumes as does the reason for the Offer. We need to invest invest and invest in up to-date technology and machinery...If only we could concentrate on wealth creating investments as here rather than giving attention to nail bars booze outlets and the like all the time as per the daily news items !!
Excellent !!
Thanks, Tango, for your valued interest in my well being.. much appreciated and well flattered.
Am still very much invested and read the blogs from time to time.
Can’t agree more with those commenting about today’s news being a little negative yet the SP has held firm .. that itself speaks volumes and we now have an indication of a published and more open dialogue with Daera .. JW and team did so well to change direction in 2019 when funds were short IM was stalled and Infa was going nowhere, except down the proverbial hole in the Loch .. now look at us .. stay confident for 2021 .. good riddance 2020. !!
Disappointed with the last of the Vikings going but not so gloomy about the end of Barrow ...for now.
Lots of technical stuff after a very shaky Zoom start ..Still potential great future for H&W and Appledore and JW and team have done a great job moving the focus away from IM in 2020 ...now that we know of some of the shenanigans with Daera and the need to appoint top lawyers and QC's to combat their ongoing prevarications !!
Good point .. and that was for the whole damn residual estate including the now vacant land ,fabrication sheds, the cranes, quaysides and the smaller dock . I have some interesting photos of the Building Dock being multi tasked and used if anyone is interested. Contact is via LinkedIn !!
Some interesting facts for you all on the Building Dock.
There were two dominant reasons for its construction from 1967-1969.First there was the rather haphazard method of then launching ships down the slipway into the narrow Musgrave Channel.Second was an enquiry from Esso for two VLCC's for delivery in 1970 which of course needed a much larger build dock. Why not block off and fill in the Musgrave Channel itself. Brilliant idea !
With great foresight both the N.I. and National Governments supported the project to the tune of £16M despite good old H&W having been in a loss position for some time in the 1960's.George Wimpy secured the contract and it became the then largest build dock in the world.Steel fabrication for the Esso tankers started well before project finish .Optimism indeed especially as "The Troubles" were then starting to fester!
So we have a truly wonderful asset and iconic too ( with those German Krupp built cranes)
So what would it cost to build today -I recall the figure £80M but stand to be corrected .
In the 60's U.K built "things".Drax Power Station ,Nuclear Stations, Ships and Large Building Docks --we were still world leaders .If only again !! Monday should be fun ....and Tuesday !!
Most Certainly !! Yes.
My word .. that was a welcome big one at 170K volume .. Monday then Tuesday should be fun with something in the pipeline and not just hot air !!!
A significant contract or contract news with our friendly Scandinavian Raiders .... or just any significant contract with anybody !
............now seems scheduled to depart the SRQ on 31st December 2020 NOT 31st October 2020 a least according to Belfast Harbour site ??? Still no destination shown as there is no facility for such on the site but this is perhaps not such bad news after all as it would have been depressing to see the last of the Viking Queens depart now ....
However, quite a few ships are shown to be leaving on that date ...which happens to be the year end of course so the site may not be able to project information beyond ..If only we knew what the score is .Perhaps more will be revealed on 10th November !!
Excellent find,Mr D -I hazard a guess and gamble that Viking Sky is NOT leaving us ..as you say no destination shown and it will be cost effective to leave the gates open after our Canadian visitor departs for the St Lawrence ..BUT I could be wrong here and stand to be corrected ..If per chance Viking Sky is going into the BBD ..that will be fantastic news ..and long awaited and well deserved for the workforce ..just what we need prior to 10th November !!
..................choppy seas and Low Pressure systems on the voyage persist !! So what's to be positive about :
1. We have a decent, compliant ,well-led and experienced Main Board and local Board ( at H&W ) The people and workforce at H&W seem so proud that the yard is busy and attracting constant work. There has been recently some excellent PR and if you can join and visit "The Yard" on Facebook then see what I mean .
2. JW certainly has shown that he not only has a gambling spirit for business but also a "Head for Heights "by entertaining the worthies on top of Goliath !!
3. We have two potentially profitable assets now on the books and H&W seems to be paying it's way so far
4. We have a decent mix of II's who have invested in the potential long term and stayed the course as far as we can tell .This was not the case 12 months ago
5. We have great vision per the Board with the Barrow FSRU project and Offshore Wind Farm fabrication at H&W and ,yes,
6. Despite all the shenanigans and goings on + delays we still have some faith in IM though if that one is Dead in the Water ( excuse the pun ) it would be best for the Board to continue to progress it via representations and good project management as the fundamentals still exist despite Climate Change activism.
7. Our tie up with Navantia has immense potential yet to be realised. The Board have worked wonders on this !!
And so to the negative side and why it's so important to take part and listen to the presentation on 10th November next :
1. We don't know the figures yet ( due soon though ) for H&W's performance but successfully dealing with some local Irish Sea Ferries and working wonders on Oceanex Connaigra may only mean a break even now that we have increased the workforce and set out to purchase updated fabrication and cutting equipment for the yard. What we need is for the Viking type Contacts to be confirmed soon .If the Government can support us with Export Credit type finance that will be a game changer .not sure why Viking Sea is still languishing in Trieste and Viking Sun is doing the same off Mukran ?
2. Appledore's revival ( and possibly that of Belfast too ) may well depend on new Naval contracts ..But as you see from the Sunday press today there is a a current battle between Rishy S and Bojo ( supported by Ben Wallace ) over the Autumn Defence Review .Nothing is given despite Bojo's optimism for Appledore which needs immediate investment and transfer of technology per Navantia
3. If ML is going to rumble on ,best to lay all the cards on the table ..sooner than later .I think all of us are somewhat jaded by the delays and consequentials here !
4. In general either before or at the 10th November Get Together we need news of a significant contract, details of how H&W is fairing in difficult times, news about progress with Navantia /Barrow and ,dare I say, something however small about IM ..
do all attend 10th November ... still lots to be excited about .if only..
Hmm ??.. Good one,Darryl.. Like your objectivity and you shared dislike of ****!!
......Will Scottish Nationalism have any effect on Government Policy building UK ( or Disunited K as the case may be ?) at Rosyth or Scotstoun ..Answers after supper please !!
Good Morning , Stokey and all .I need to allay your reasonable fears founded soley upon the delayed departure. My sources from the yard and otherwise confirm that the business relationship with the owners remains stronger than ever .
As TTNY says this is and old vessel and extra necessary works have been requested after being discovered post docking and the contract remains on course and profitable. There will be further work as the H&W team have been able to demonstrate how accommodating and flexible they can be .We have a happy customer here so no problem to be concerned over at this time !!
Scroll down to Lord Touhig ( whoever he may be ?) bemoaning “dither and delay by this incompetent government “ ?!! Now we all know that Bojo is on side especially after tempting us with Appledore but the debate in the Lords does give credence to the need for an early solution after 3+ years already of delay .. There is real parliamentary pressure to sort the issue for once and for all bringing in NATO partners and their skills if needs be . I refer here to our esteemed Spanish colleagues and their technical expertise!! Watch this space .. JW has done well to make such a link and have Bojo and Team Resolute working hard .
Ha Ha !! Good one and you could be right as profit taking is what we are all about ... sadly I am not Mr Big nowadays and am here for the long term .. like you all ?!! Salivating over the prospects for off shore wind farm work including new floating structures!!
................Seller <<<<<<<<<< has popped up again today at 13.31 --slightly worrying despite the rise yesterday unexpectedly in the absence of any concrete news still though perhaps because of that rise --otherwise the increasing news flow from H&W by Social Media is most welcome and thanks to all for updating nearly every day now ..as you say no need for such to be by RNS as they do cost quite a bit to prepare and publish obviously !!
Stokey12 .yes wonderful find and post ...again ..interesting indeed to have some in depth expert guidance as to exactly what they are doing with our Canadian visitor ...There are pictures on the H&W Facebook pages too !!Both ships currently in dock look superb after the paint jobs !!
Well done,Joe ..best to try another one ...for luck today !!
