Hi, quick off topic question if I may.......

I bought my shares from my Halifax Shares ISA last year (along with another couple of companies I invested in). As we are now into the new tax year, do I need to do anything else to make sure I still benefit from the ISA rules on profit (assuming one day this one does turn to profit?)

I've seen some people on the other share I use sell and then re-buy back? Do I have to do that here?

I have been trying to speak to Halifax to ask about it but can never get through!

Can someone explain to me how this company actually generates income? They are purely an investment company so will never have anything to sell other then shares.

Only way they can get income is form selling shares in the other companies they hold, but they are a one time only sell surely? Once they have sold their shares, they have gone. What next?

Or if they get to a stage where one of their holdings start to provide divii's, but is that likely anytime soon given the status of the companies they invest in. or do they have any agreements where they automatically get a certain percentage of a companies profit? even then, none of the companies they invest in are particularly close to producing revenue I dont believe?

Other option is the companies get bought out, but again thats a one time sell, what happens next?

I used to hold these but sold out a while ago and have no real interest in getting involved again so I am not trying to bash the company, just dont understand how they can continue to attract new investment themselves

Northseatiger1 - a buy just went through at 23.2 but if this goes below 23p you will 'pounce'? So you are holding out for a 1% drop to pounce? why not do it now if you are going to?!

Their proposed £10,000 and £15,000 would now be worth c£7,000 and c£10,500 if they stick to it. Peanuts to them but bet even they are hoping the resolutions get rejected now.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong (I'm certainly no expert) but if you were thinking of buying in the open market rather then the offer, then the company doesn't get the money do they?

Not saying they deserve it by any stretch, but if you are thinking about both options, wouldn't it be better to take the offer rather then buy in the open market so that the company gets the money to work with? - assuming the SP is very close to the offer price that is (which it probably wont be by the looks of it?!)

thanks knicol, I dont have L2 or DMA so guess it means nothing to me, just always wondered what they were. Always thought it was something to do with people wanting an extra 10 mins to trade a certain share for some reason

I heard on radio on the way to work this morning that there is a new breath test system being trialled over the next 2 years that can be used to test for early stage cancer. I dont know anything else about it - has anyone else heard of it?
