Thanks for pointing out the press release (I take it you are referring to the Windows Vista version of FxGuard Log-on - biometric authentication of users for PC's and laptops. Whilst this is no doubt good news, I think in itself it is not the reason for the recovery in the sp. I speculate that the market update from RCG that results will be ahead of expectations, coupled with the wider market recovery after the recent credit crunch has alerted investors to the strong fundamentals and good value RCG offers.
yes indeed. Now testing support/resistance at 105p. Will be interesting to see if it breaks through in anticipation of results.
Yes: with some stocks, timing is everything. Tips are appreciated but we would be mad to buy just from a tip-off on a BB (not that you are suggesting this). Sometimes I do my own research and decide not to buy and later realise my mistake - e.g. PET. The only thing that puts me of PET is the extreme optimism of the advfn thread. It's too good to be true and I shall be watching the PET sp like a hawk. News on Iraq that Malachi is now out of favour even with Democrats and Republicans in the US may result in still further instability. Regarding commodities: Positive earnings and growth predictions by ex CEO of BHP Billiton Chip Goodyear and bullish comments from Xstrata too re-assure me regarding base metals and coal for next year. I will be investing in some of the FTSE100 diversified miners this week. I also think that there will be a trickle down of sentiment from the megacap miners to the small cap explorers and junior producers - eventually. We have also seen the price of nickel rise over 5% last week and a recovery to some extent in the smaller nickel plays - e.g. rmla and lnd to a degree.
BTW do you still hold EME, JSP and LNG?
afraid not debbie - was in Indonesia for 2 months so missed a lot of great tips unfortunately.
afraid not. Sold TMC at a 50% loss though only had a small holding. TMC was the only share apart from VIY I was "scared out of" during the dark days of a few weeks ago. However the money from both has found profitable homes since. TMC is worth a watch though - if BHP does make an offer, the sp will soar. I personally think with the 50% fall in the price of Nickel 200-225p is fair value for TMC but sentiment can weight the share heavily so 400p is possible again I believe.
My thoughts are that fundamentals are still being ignored by the market, but that there was support around 100-110 so there is likely to be resistance there too on the way up. Not complaining with the sp's recent performance though.
Hi Wayne, See the MXP thread for what happened to me re: stop losses. I'd take it up with your broker personally. TDWaterhouse thankfully re-imbursed my shares as a gesture of "goodwill". Good luck
Perhaps the conference call at 2pm will assuage some doubts. Good luck
Yes - was relieved to get 322.5p - I went for an online trade but had no limit set so the sell was blind with no minimum price. Scary. I really did consider selling at close of play but interpreted very strong finish in the sp as potential evidence that consensus was results would be interpreted favourably. Any minute uncertainty is pounced on with SOLA and the shorters are more vocal on advfn - perhaps those that post are the tip of the iceberg. Good stuff from MXP as you point out, and WNG is performing brilliantly :)
for now I am out. A meagre 3.3% profit after costs: bought 309 sold 322.5. Then again you don't go broke taking profit. I had a feeling any trace of negativity in the RNS would send this into a tailspin and unfortunately SOLA sneakily released the news just after the markets opened. I had to just hope for the best and submit my order to a queue. Took 15 mins for the sale to go through, and in the meantime the sp didn't look too strong. Have always managed to make money from trading SOLA, and I will be back.
I sold £13k of Savills today leaving £7k invested. I have a friend at Investec who does property development financing who is still bullish on UK commercial and residential and no doubt the figures from the likes of Persimmon, Bovis and the consultants like SVS will be in line. The problem I have is that I am worried the madness of crowds will not play in their favour. In other words I think sentiment will weigh against housing and property in the next 12 months. We have seen average prices of houses fall in London this month (excluding the luxury market). I bought £3k of CEY today in my ISA - with a short term target of 60p. Northern Rock looks cheaper than the house builders - PE 7.6, dividend 6% - but would have been even tastier last week. My concern is that a housing down turn would hit them hard, but they do still look like value.
What a day. The third stock in my portfolio to go to auction is SOLA. It looks like a lot of people are taking long positions ahead of results tomorrow. 355p as I write.
someone with more detailed info can no doubt confirm this - but I think Bid and Offer are both at 34.0p on ASM. These shares have been oversold and are now being snapped up with such fantastic news regarding ASA404's brilliant Phase II results on lung cancer:- Antisoma says phase II lung cancer drug trial reports positive results LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Cancer drug developer Antisoma PLC said the phase II trial of its ASA404 drug has produced positive final results and added that the trial has shown one of the largest increases in median survival ever reported in lung cancer. 'These positive results strongly support our earlier trial findings, which showed that adding ASA404 to chemotherapy improves survival in patients with lung cancer,' Antisoma's chief operating officer Dr Ursula Ney said. Antisoma's partner, Novartis, plans to start enrolment of patients into a phase III trial early in 2008, the company added.
Absolutely Davius. (I like MTA for this reason -about 2.5p cash per share with an sp of about 5.75p and plenty of upside. Though of course it is a junior oiler and we know what they are like ;) Nice to see WNG rise so much today. Also SOLA seems to have untangled itself from parasitic shorters, ASM has released positive results on a lung cancer trial, MXP continues to bounce strongly, and CEY has found even more gold. I needed some luck.
I think the shorts are now closing out. Tide coming back in.
Davius - I thank you now sir!
yep - SVS now 467 as well. incredible. a lot of PI's really screwed early on when fear really got to them
yep - that's why the sp has tanked. the news is priced into the fall.
