Ecuador's Ministry of Environment is working on a series of policies and regulations to streamline procedures and eliminate the discretion of officials who have to issue reports and licenses for the mining sector.
"We seek to make processes more efficient, because, if technology is improved, but not processes, nothing has been gained," said the Minister of Environment, Inés Manzano, during the Ecuador-Canada Environmental Dialogue workshop, organized by the Ecuadorian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
Ecuador has only two industrial mines in production: the Mirador copper mine and the Fruta del Norte gold mine. However, its geological wealth and the series of projects that could come into production in the next decade and others in different stages of exploration open expectations of turning the South American country into an important supplier of essential minerals for the energy transition.
