He1 used satellite to detect atmospheric helium, amazing stuff, especially when so far away and with so many other gases in the atmosphere..

@Roger, its only guess work, and I do keep pointing out an engine change is not an issue, while some like to make out its something challenging..

I have done a few engine changes in the field, off the back of a truck fitted with a hiab..

All done the same day using spanners and ratchets..long time ago

TL's theory is very plausible, and Lorna states the "piece provides the power" and it "relates to the engine", so could be the transmission especially if the part is directly connected to the engine..

@TL2482, yes you may well be right, definitely a common point but it does'nt really matter as either way it will be up and running soon, engine or gear box its just a swap, and there will likely be exchange programs for both..

And we could both be wrong ..

@Roger, either way its swap out, both in and out quickly, it all looks deck mounted, so easy access once the covers are off..... working 24hrs, up and running the next day ...that two weeks is mainly waiting time.. obviously the engine requires a little more setting up, but its routine for trained technicians..

Its all battery power tools these days, way faster than the old spanners and ratchet..

Lorna is still talking power issues, historically the 1st power issue was remedied by upgrading the engine management software, the 2nd by replacing the injectors which had excessive wear.. If those injectors had excessive wear through poor fuel then its likely the high pressure fuel pump did too, it has really fine tolerances inside, and that was'nt replaced...That plays a big part in creating the pressure required for the injectors to properly atomize the fuel, and those injectors need high pressure to operate.. Not enough pressure, and there is fueling issue, especially under load.. Maybe the injector issue was down to the pump, and they were fine..

They never stated the injectors were tested ?

There is the diesel deck engine, that powers a hydraulic system, the hydraulic system drives both the truck and drill, and even the engines fan ,,,

The Predator carrier is hydrostatically driven via a hydraulic motor powered by the deck engine diesel hydraulic system. A feed/rotation pump powers the hydraulic drive which is coupled to a clutch and manual gear box. Power from the hydraulic motor runs through the clutch and manual transmission to the rear axles.

I have'nt worked out the connection to the drill, but like TL says the hydraulic system has a gear box directly driven from the deck engine, which I assume can direct the power for either drilling or driving.. so could be..

I still think its the engine from the interviewers question and lorna's response.

Lorna said the fault was in the "main rig carrier" so there was nothing said for the interviewer to believe its the engine, especially to say " in the engine".. A typical truck would have a power take off after the engine to transfer drive to a hydraulic system, but he went straight to an internal engine fault ? who knows, staged interviews ???

Is that a manual gearbox to drive along the road, if so it would'nt stop the drilling ?

Rig issues happen, the rig used by PANR had electrical/hydraulic issues, and was fixed, completed the drill. It then broke down on the road to 88e, it was fixed, and completed the drill..

What an opportunity 4p entry, or a chance to reduce any paper losses..

Engine or, internal component, just swap it out... I expect Cat have an engine exchange program, you get a reconditioned unit, and then send yours back... She was confident about that two weeks..

So thinking about it again an internal component is a strong possibility.. often engine issues have some telling symptoms,

If it is, its just a swap out, ....

I wonder if they renewed the engine oil before moving it for that Audit, the oil I just purchased only has 5 years shelf life even with the protection of a sealed container, .....,
