I also suspect that the physical spread and infrastructure costs of building ITM units are substantially higher compared to the smaller footprint DMG which is portable in comparison (and therefore easier to replicate on smaller sites without massive energy requirements, both in the UK and elesewhere in the world). And how long does it take to commission a new ITM unit compared to a DMG? We have to remember that the PHE solution is an Early Stage Innovation Challenger technology and appeals to early adopters and visionaries - the model needs to be proved before it will appeal to the bigger market (see the 'Crossing the Chasm' technology adoption model).

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has invested £20m in projects with new technologies for plastics recycling. Looking at these projects, I would say PHE looks inexpensive considering that Hydrogen and Energy are universally consumed by-products, compared to the generation of "new virgin-grade plastics, waxes and a bitumen-like residue suitable for use in road construction, or hydrocarbon oil."

As they say, 'where there's muck there's brass' and once the commercial payback model of the DMG unit is proven, it will be a real contender to deal with the plastic mess elsewhere in the world where initiatives are already in place (as well as finance).
