Well, it's been quite an evening. We've waited months for BJ to discuss therepeutics at the daily briefing and, when he finally did today, I think a few of us were unhappy at what he said.
Time will tell whether a pill can be discovered for use as an at home treatment for Covid. Saying it as flippantly as BJ did, makes it sound simple, but in reality if that were the case such a thing would already exist. So we'll have to wait to see how that plays out in time.
Yes, Synairgen have a product which could potentially be used at home. The key word being potentially. Let's remember that the HT was an add on to the P2 trial, this wasn't the main focus of the company. The results from the HT will give us some data about the effectiveness of the treatment at an early stage but that's all. The real test of SNG001 as a home treatment will come from the Activ-2 trial. There was a reason why we were chosen for that trial, and success there will pave the way for at home use. If results are good then I'm sure Synairgen will be able to share those with the UK government who will then have a decision to make. Being part of the antiviral task force isn't going to tell us anything about Synairgen as a home treatment that we're not going to find out in the next few weeks/months already.
Nothing has really changed as a result of the announcement today. The UK government have at least made their position clear and that answers questions previously asked on this forum about them seemingly ignoring therepeutics. We now know they're not, and in time data will show whether we are potentially an answer to the conundrum they are trying to solve.
