9/ LUANSOBE - discussion?
"Well, in 2019 the previous owners had invested a substantial amount to construct 3 new mine shafts, one of which was built here at this site. It had reach 1547m deep of the 2 km planned and the second deepest shaft in the world. It travels at 18m/sec, 6 times faster than your average passenger lift and can shift 10,000t a day. But, I digress, in 2020 and the advent of Covid, the owner wanted to place the mine on 'care and maintenance' giving reasons, a poor copper price, critical disruption to mobility, transportation and supply-chains. Our partners (49%) were not keen on the idea as the mine sites are a major employer in the region, 15,000 people, 5,000 of which were employed here and wanted to protect jobs. The following year, 2021 our partners purchased the whole company for $1 plus debt ($1.5bn) to be paid-off at a fixed-rate per tonne copper produced. As you can imagine the company struggled through the pandemic and here we are today having purchased 51% and to say the least, have more than enough on our plate at this time. We do however, like your proposal for mine expansion. Our property along strike extends to your boundary which in turn borders the DRC so it makes good sense to start with your property and work back towards the mine rather than the reverse. We also have a remit to treble production output over the next few years. Tell you what, come back in a year or two when we are more settled and discuss the proposition in more detail."
"OK, how about Feb'26?"
"Fine. Hopefully we will be better placed to advance the situation you suggest."
"See you then."
Speculation. DYOR.
