I would say gold is akin to trading chickens or rice , just like the archaic days. I can't see a difference in holding stocks.

The only one thing in golds favour , is everyman and his dog has heard of it. But , there is no income from it , and if you hold an ingot , you can hardly slice it and sell a bit.

IMO , it's old school and best left to the big players who can deal in percentages of gold portfolios.

No seriously , I can understand governments holding billions in gold , they can trade it via countries for debt etc. I don't get an individual holding 250k physical gold say.

So , it rises in value in your safe , you still can't pay your bills with it until you sell it and get the cash.
