Relaxation of travel rules is unlocking demand for overseas trips, says Skyscanner
Flight comparison website Skyscanner has seen demand surge for international travel following the recent relaxation to UK rules. Its findings include:
Over 60% increase in weekly booking volumes from the UK since mid-August.
Since the last government announcement on September 17, the most booked holiday hotspots for UK travellers are Spain, the US, Turkey, Italy and the UAE.
When the last changes were announced on the September 17, daily bookings for Turkey (which was removed from the red list) rose by 635%.
Martin Nolan, traveller rights expert at Skyscanner, said:
UK travellers have been longing to return to travel throughout the pandemic, the recent simplification of rules and many new additions to the quarantine free travel list has really changed perceptions. As a result of the recent changes to the traffic light lists, countries like Turkey, the Maldives and Mauritius saw exponential rises in interest, pointing to the fact that travellers are responding to any new changes and beginning to look further afield as winter approaches.
The news is also driving confidence, with our data showing that travellers are now looking further ahead and making plans for the festive season and into 2022. Travellers are starting to think about, and act on, breaks to sunnier climes, family reunions, honeymoons and more. It’s great to see the UK embrace exploring the world once again.
