There are exceptions and I suspect the plunge protection team are out today buying
It is generally prohibited for a UK company to continue share buybacks once a bid approach is in place, particularly if those buybacks could frustrate the bid or change the shareholding structure in a way that affects the fairness of the offer. However, there are certain exceptions, such as ongoing programs or with explicit consent from shareholders or the bidder.
If a company continues buybacks in a manner that violates these rules, it could face scrutiny from the Panel on Takeovers and Mergers and may be required to stop those actions or face penalties.
