I have done my own research, unlike some that claim to. The latest deadline for Smart Meter rollout in India is also holding out for the populist 'Made in India' notion. It's like they can soften the blow, assuring the new found bill payer, that it is a home grown solution. What they haven't thought through is production capacity, across the nation, will not cover a tenth of the proposed installs. The meter is a one off, manufacturers are never going to invest in one off sales. Made in India falls at the first.

Are you saying since 2018 Omni has not been a near 100% solution available to them? They have had 3 years to buy it and solve their problems, what have you got to state it is about to happen now? Given you have been saying exactly this line for at least 3 years, I'd be interested to see what you have found that confirms this?

What you say here is the basic, undiluted facts on the actions that should be taken. India have had the problem for years, they have also had seemingly 100% proofed solutions to eliminate the problem for so many years also. The constant monetary loss is put at $34 billion yearly. This is possibly the biggest corporate/government no brainer in the world today, so why is it not happening?

We are not talking everyday population here. This theft goes through all walks, Teachers, Judges, Lawyers, Police force, you name it, many are at it. If they are serious, firm end dates and very real financial penalties have to be applied now. Whatever standing government has the will to attempt it, will not be serving next term. The scale of this project appears all consuming to those involved. My opinion is they literally do not know where to start, although this fragmenting method is probably the way to go. It has however taken them nearly a year of nothing to come up with this new approach. There is a problem to solve, the Indian nation will benefit in short term gain, the real issue is it will never be received well by a voting public. This has been a political football for so many years, and I can't see breaking it into bite size chunks making much difference. Modi has said all the words, though I do struggle to find the genuine quotes. This needs concrete timelines, with real financial penalties attached, to force those that can to get on and do. Public street lighting was easy, cheap and effective. People will be seeing the benefit instantly, and it costs them nothing. Smart metering is the absolute opposite, and I'm not sure any ruling party has the will to be the ones to disrupt a silent theft issue on this scale.

To be very clear tonyj, the term Pilot was was used because it is a errrr pilot. Indore has supposedly been viewed by the world and his dog. Everyone supposedly says how great it is, yet none of these enthusiasts actually place an order of any note. Now we have Intellismart. Do they know the CC solution offer? Probably, they will have seen it at Indore. Do they trust it out of the box with a volume order? No.
Will they award someone volume work? Possibly.
Are these the ones that question the viability of a CC contract term that may not be fulfilled due to potential company demise? Almost certainly.

Two observations.
This very same MoP said a year ago all meters will be Smart within 3 years. A year later they have done literally NOTHING.
The next Indian general election is scheduled to be held in or before May 2024. The full replacement to be targeted by 2025 is no coincidence, the excuse is inbuilt and ready for use.

How long do we think Intellismart will drag out the Pilot, 9/12/18 months? If it's the latter, India will be gearing up for another election, and we know nothing much moves a year either side of that.
CC need volume, from nations interested, and they need it soon.
