Looking closer at this 5 Million unit order, I am fairly certain that this was one of the expected volume contracts JC announced would be won. Interesting, EDF are not supplying the meters, that was a separate tender from EESL. So, I would say at least one CC meter manufacturer partner has also lost out. The timing, and noise around EESL/CC round table event, are bang on.
As has been noted before, forget the made in India line.

Often, when working with such numerical opposites, I will always go with common sense.
I could have posted that in 35 lines, but far better things to do.

Sorry, do you really think India, or anyone else for that matter, will pay $700 per meter!

Never mind L&T, my contacts put them well off the pace. L&G however are right in the middle of things. EDF are hand in hand, and that is a mighty partnership. Time will tell.

Kumar wants International Expertise.......... ie someone who has financial clout and previous history on volume delivery. This would have been the 2nd Round Table, with the expensive Biscuits : )

EDF has announced the deployment of 100,000 smart meters in India’s first large scale smart prepaid rollout.
The milestone marks the completion of the first stage of what will be a 5 million smart meter rollout across India by EDF and Accenture.
Almost half of the meters will be deployed in Bihar state, which has successfully piloted the technology and will be the first to deploy it at scale.
The $70 million contract with the Ministry of Power administered Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) covers the design of the advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), the installation of the smart meters, their integration with the existing billing system of the electricity distribution companies and operation and maintenance of the system for a period of six and half years.

jake. CC had to buy Connode, or someone else, as they needed the Tech that JC assured investors was never needed in India. He didn't understand the market then, and I doubt knows much more now. To take a failing company and let the current owners keep the Lion share of the UK contract, as is 500k units, makes it even more of a mockery. The boat leaked nicely just before the acquisition, as it does before anything sensitive happens.
