RE: The Elephant In The Room (1)5 Jan 2021 10:50
I recall the reaction of Marsden when asked about the 'Home Trial' in his 21/10/20 interview on ProActive Investors (https://youtu.be/BFFo7fhk-zM) ....he opened his response (about 8min 30 secs in) with 'Yeees.....' , trying his best, in my opinion, to hide his frustration at the lack of support of the trial by the Government and health authorities. He then went on to personally promote 'covidtrialathome' which I just found so embarrassing for him.
I was so incensed with this situation that I wrote to our local MP on October 30 and copied in Fergus Walsh of the BBC - part of this email follows:
'Interferon has been widely proposed for months by a number of medical experts as the best treatment for COVID-19, it is extensively available since it historically has been used in the treatment of MS, it is well tolerated since it is already part of the body's natural defences and, indeed, the co-founder of Synairgen, Stephen Holgate, has just been knighted for his services to medicine.
On July 28 Synairgen announced positive results from its Phase II double-blind placebo-controlled trial in 100 hospitalised COVID-19 patients. The results were astonishing - there was a 70%-80% reduction in the chance of progressing to severe disease or death and also patients were twice as likely to recover to normal health over the course of the treatment. Synairgen then planned to roll out the treatment to home patients where results were expected to be even better because the treatment was to be given earlier after the initial infection, compared to hospitalised patients where the infection would be firmly established.
So you would think that the Government would be making every effort to get behind this drug and to publicise the home trial. This would increase the available data on the drug, potentially save lives and help to expedite its use if it was found to have the same, or better, benefits than the hospitalised trial.
However, in his latest interview on October 21 - almost 3 months after the Phase II results were published - Richard Marsden, CEO of Synairgen, is pleadingly seen promoting the home trial to anybody who would like to take it up! Britain has a potentially life-saving drug here....every week that passes there are lives being lost which could have been saved. Synairgen are seeking approval from the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) and EMA (European Medicines Agency) and the French are conducting their own trials. Synairgen is about to start a Phase III clinical trial of 900 patients across 20 countries .....and what have we heard from the Government?.....nothing! Please inform other MP's and ask the Dept. of Health and Social Care to get behind this to help save British lives.'
....and, would you believe it, a piece in the D. Express on Oct 31 publicising the Home
