I don't think there is a problem with the permit. The extension is just the process that the BLM has to take.

It was but then it was extended to 4th February.

They seem to be recovering a bit. Let’s hope it carries on.

They say in the letter:

"At the very least, before allowing any additional activity under the Peregrine Exploration Plan to
occur, BLM must engage in formal ESA consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
(Service) to carefully analyze the impacts of such activities on polar bears and must ensure that
the proper take authorizations are in place".

And that is exactly what has been done. So I can't see there being a problem.

I have just sent the BLM my comments. I don't think it will make much difference but at least I have tried and you never know....

Maybe these 'extra' days are just because they should have originally used 10 working days instead of 10 days and they had to correct. Might just be as simple as that?

Same here. Even the environmentalists can't argue against the permit as we have done exactly what they asked for.

I believe you are correct. From what I understand they have to give a period for the public to give their views/objections. the annoying thing is they have extended it. We are under time constraints so it's getting a bit tight, but we don't want it going on too long. It's interesting that the last couple of RNS says drill is planned during February instead of 15th February.

Instead of just sitting here waiting for the decision of the permit why don't you email the BLM reasons why they should issue the permit. They have extended the timeframe for comments so that is what we should do. I am.

Reading the potential lawsuit from the Center for Biological Diversity , they said:

of the agency’s legal obligations and deprive polar bears of vitally important protections. "
This is exactly when we have done and the findings say there is minimal intact. So I can't see the Center for Biological Diversity going ahead with the lawsuit. I'm convince we will get the permit next week.

Thank you for your reply. I understand that but it still doesn’t explain why they would extend the period for public comments. They have already said they have had no one from the public object yet so I assume the BDO is not classed as public? And even if they were why would the period be extended just for them?
Is this extra 10 day extension common practice.

I know we have discussed this earlier but in the BLM Environmental Assessment it says “ An amended Right-of-Way for surface activities was issued on December 22, 2021”. As we know 30 days have passed on the 21 January. They are saying they are now allowing another 10 days for public comments. From others I understand this is just standard procedure and the final process of the permit. So all ok it looks like.

Two questions if I may:
1. Do all the permits, not only the permit to drill, have to be approved by the BLM. If so, wouldn’t it be a bit daft for them to approve the rest but not the the drill.
2. Is it common place for the extra week to be requested by the BLM.

One last thing is our friends PANR got their permit to drill very late, I believe their rig was already on the pad.

Agreed. But I hope I’m wrong.
The only thing I would say is we must have been talking to the BLM and hopefully all that can be done has been.
I would just like to know why would they extend the period when so far when no one from the public has objected yet.

BLM said yesterday of the permit:

“The BLM will accept and consider additional public comments on the EA from January 21, 2022, through January 31, 2022, prior to taking action on the Application for Permit to Drill one exploratory well in 2022.”

Looks like first week of February for the decision. As of yet I understand they have not had objections from the public.

I’m sure they said the permit is going to be issued before the rig mobilisation. So this Sunday I assume.
