The treatment incites the body’s natural defenses to destroy only cancer cells by identifying mutations unique to each tumor

Scientists are on the cusp of commercializing the first personalized cancer vaccine. If it works as hoped, the vaccine, which triggers a person’s immune system to identify a tumor by its unique mutations, could effectively shut down many types of cancers.

By using the body’s natural defenses to selectively destroy only tumor cells, the vaccine, unlike conventional chemotherapies, limits damage to healthy cells. The attacking immune cells could also be vigilant in spotting any stray cancer cells after the initial treatment.

The possibility of such vaccines began to take shape in 2008, five years after the Human Genome Project was completed, when geneticists published the first sequence of a cancerous tumor cell.

Soon after, investigators began to compare the DNA of tumor cells with that of healthy cells—and other tumor cells. These studies confirmed that all cancer cells contain hundreds if not thousands of specific mutations, most of which are unique to each tumor.

A few years later, a German startup called BioNTech provided compelling evidence that a vaccine containing copies of these mutations could catalyze the body’s immune system to produce T cells primed to seek out, attack, and destroy all cancer cells harboring them.

In December 2017, BioNTech began a large test of the vaccine in cancer patients, in collaboration with the biotech giant Genentech. The ongoing trial is targeting at least 10 solid cancers and aims to enroll upwards of 560 patients at sites around the globe.

The two companies are designing new manufacturing techniques to produce thousands of personally customized vaccines cheaply and quickly. That will be tricky because creating the vaccine involves performing a biopsy on the patient’s tumor, sequencing and analyzing its DNA, and rushing that information to the production site. Once produced, the vaccine needs to be promptly delivered to the hospital; delays could be deadly. —Adam Piore

Val Ju, not at all, but don"t you think before you meet the BOD to be fobbed off, you should know who owns the IP?

My only criticism is you make hints about what is being discussed in the Group, which should remain in the private domain, on this BB. It just reminds me of fourteen and his endless posts about if you contact the BOD they would reassure you, suggesting he knew inside information.

Hope you don"t take that too personally, but considering your endless calls for anyone with an alternative opinion to be filtered, posts reported and name calling, perhaps you should apologise better than sit on a higher horse, show some humility and not make out you are doing everything in your power to sort this mess out, which lets face it you helped create too. I obviously hope you do achieve something, but i cant for the life of me see what you are trying to gain. As for the BOD what information can they give you that is not inside information? Only reassurance, which seems to be something that will fall on deaf ears. No I am not a Mr Knowall, but by not falling in love with this share, I could see this happening a mile off, and called the dates of four placings correctly, three times the correct price too, whilst taking insult after insult, and some very nasty posts.

Forkie, no i don"t know the exact amount, it has been three years since I traded this, whilst rampers just call their buys, but never sells. Who is the more honest? But i have always had a feeling VAL will end up with Valiseek, who i guess owns some of the IP at least, and one of the main reasons is the Directors lack of shares over so many years of placings after placings. Was it not FRR that recently went private? Worth thinking about. As for averaging down and feeling trapped, well i know the feeling believe me, and as for not wanting VAL to suceed, especially with a compound for lung cancer, well i don"t need to answer that.

And Val Ju as for your last post...............""or just ask Chelsea as he seems a "knowitall" ? Well I"m not, just as human as we all are, but if you mean by that that I called this right, I will take it as a compliment.

Never had a big problem with VAL as a company, always hoped they would succeed, the issue i have had is the ramping, which has IMHO been outrageous at best. It would be nice to know what you are trying to achieve, and when you all decide what it is, perhaps you will take my advice to get some legal advice, and at least know who owns the IP!!! Anyway goodnight.

Hmmm, don"t buy that. Scancell must have issued the abstract to a third party for publication. That being the case our PR to the Oncology community is good. However, you can"t ignore what shareholders say regularly, and it is important, just perhaps by improving that alone we wouldn"t of have to have raised at 10p, 12p or sit at 7.20 now?

Didn"t know the news flow comes from an outside source, but given it does, shouldn"t Scancell use the website to inform us it has been published and it"s relevance to us?

I think it is fair to say that the vast majority of PIs would say the lack of news is frustrating at best, in fact a reason we have lost PIs or some have reduced their holdings as a result.

Without trying to ignore what others are saying, if you were Scancell, and not on every occasion, is there a way that Scancell could on occasions, inform shareholders what abstracts have been published, the reason for the study, and to what end point they are seeking. Not asking whether you think we suffer from the news flow we get, but try and understand very few of us fully understand the importance of certain abstracts being published.
