Lithium is not the only fruit!13 Nov 2018 20:37
Had a chat with the Skeleton guys today at Electronica (trade show) in Munich. Another solution for islands, buses etc. Capicitors use no scarce minerals, just a bit of aluminium and graphene-type carbon. A bit niche and not a kWhr type technology like Li-ion but there you are.
“Skeleton Technologies, a leading expert in graph-based energy storage systems, is now supporting the self-sufficient power grid of the Isle of Eigg in the Scottish Sea. The island's micro-grid is powered 100% by renewable energy, making the Isle of Eigg a pioneer in independent, sustainable energy supply. Since the use of wind and solar energy can occasionally lead to a breakdown in the power grid, the island is now securing its power grid by using ultra capacitors from Skeleton Technologies. This prevents blackouts and ensures the supply of peak power at all times.”
