Jatw I suspect the unspoken logic is that consumer GSK, without the enormous costs of R&D which are required for vaccines (~£5bill last year) will become a steady cash cow and "NEW GSK" will hold the 20% for a year or two until that becomes obvious at which point they will sell for a handsome profit.
GSK don't AFAIK split out the profit/loss for their divisions because it would reveal that consumer has carried the company for many years defraying the consistent losses in vaccines(I may be wrong and would be happy to be proven so by anybody with a better understanding).It is also highly probable that Walmsley , if she survives, and the considerable cohort of relatively new senior staff she has recruited in the last four years , will be seeking to position "new GSK" such that it (apparently) makes rapid progress in both revenue and profit to meet bonus targets.

hardup have a look at BETA, it is a measure of how an individual stock moves compared to it's index. For LLOY beta is (per the FT)1.57 which means that roughly, it will move one and a half times the move in the index either up or down. NWG is 1.73 while HSBC is only 0.63 'cos of its earnings in Asia.

On the basis of what has been said so far GSK will be split in to two companies and as pointed out the 68% of the consumer products division will be offered to existing shareholders on the due date.The relative value of the two parts has yet to be ascertained though here is a very rough and ready guesstimate based on recent figs

Market cap of current GSK is £71bill,
Revenues of the three parts are pharma £17bill, vaccines £7bill and consumer £10 bill, last years total profit was £6-7bill depending on which figures you use . Lets say that consumer is making £1.5-£2bill(that's a wild guess) of the profit with the components of "NEW GSK" currently making£4-5bill then the new companies MIGHT have a market cap of say £50 bill for pharma and vaccines and £20 bill for consumer, based on todays Sp and assuming a 1 for 1 split that would give eligible shareholders 1 share in "NEW GSK" worth £10 and one in consumer worth 400p for every existing share they hold.
REPEAT the above is a indication of the simplest way the split might be conducted and on wild guess figures, anyone who wants to improve my analysis (and that should'nt be too difficult for those of you who know the company better than me feel free .

Snige.... the huge problem with investing on margin is that even though you may be right about the direction of SP movement in the medium term , every time it moves against you in the short term to have to pay to continue to play.As a conventional holder of the equity you can , and if you are sensible and believe your analysis is correct, just hold until the short term volatility reverses.
Even Falky may not be brave enough to keep on adding as the tide moves against him.

67sam...... depends on the range in a survey but IME it is common to trim the extremes in small(ish) samples as they have a disproportionate effect, but it's always a bit of a subjective decision .To give credit where it may be due the sample distribution was much more sensible ,IMV, than the recent RR poll where everyone of 30+ estimates, sorry guesses ,was too high.That said , of course, the whole business of guessing a Friday closing price is nonsense as I hope all invested here realise .

Assuming that the "wisdom of crowds"exists (and i have grave doubts !) I have done the following mini statistical exercise on the competition guesses.
Lose the top two and the bottom two to get rid of outliers which skew the process .
Average the others to produce a figure of 48.30,
Deduct 2 % to allow for the implicit positive bias of a self selecting group of (mainly/All?)holders, to produce a figure of 47.4 as the weeks close .
Well done eighty eight 88 - you will obviously win!

Hi, first post on this board from a new investor who believes that there is a good , maybe short/medium term, profit here. While the timing of going public is opportune, I expect the Covid driven move to WFH and the likelihood of increased spending on home improvement to be maintained(though perhaps at a slower rate )and see the probability of the company's penetration of its markets to increase. The model of online sales makes for much lower showroom costs and hence competitive pricing(and the guys plumbing in my new kitchen and bathroom are big fans!).The figures in the admission document suggest a PTP of >£25 mill for this FY , giving a PE of thirtyish which sounds high but IMV will be down to < 20 next year , reasonable for a fast growing company. I have added this to my portfolio of small, high growth companies .

STX announce the launch of Accrufer in the USA on 1 July. Expect an immediate bounce in SP though may well fall back until early sales figures emerge. with even modest penetration this should rerate this company.

As it becomes clearer that GSK's plan is essentially to charge the profitable consumer products division a fee of £8 bill and 20% of the equity for freedom , the monies going to fund research in the vaccines and medicines company that Walmsley wants to head it would appear that this afternoons presentation is being met with less than enthusiasm. The fall back in the SP showing the reservations of the market. While "new GSK" will benefit from a one off cash injection , the obvious fear is that it offers no guarantee of a more successful research programme than before . IMV a more radical solution is necessary and I expect that the coming weeks will see that emerge .

GSK is just under 4% of my portfolio, may rise to 5/6% over the next year or so.

Having read the text of todays announcement I fear that the initial bounce will be short-lived. It's full of worthy ambition and targets but with little concrete , I suspect Elliot will still be angling to de-Walmsley the company . A sales target of >5% pa and profit growth of >10% pa are just round numbers, with little to substantiate them. The pipeline as described does seem better but the proof is in successful and profitable product launch . I have been building up a stake here in the expectation of a re -evaluation of prospects , that will come but this sadly IMV is not it. I will continue to hold and to add as I still think GSK is seriously undervalued and I am a patient man , my timescales are measured in years and eventually the value here will be realised , most probably by another management or another owner.
I will reread and repost a more detailed analysis in the not too distant future.

RR said in August 2020 that they intended " to identify assets that are no longer key to our future strategy to raise proceeds of at least £2bn within the next 18 months. We have identified various assets for potential disposal, including ITP Aero"
Almost a year later and no sale has yet been completed and the current estimates of the value of ITP aero are falling to < 1.5bill euros. ie around £1.3bill. The sale of Bergen is apparently stalled and AFAIK no other prospective sales are in train. The company's prospects of raising £2bill by the end of year look slim.
I hold a few here as part of a very diversified portfolio, though have much reduced since taking the windfall profits of the highly discounted RI, largely in the hope that an opportunist bid to establish a large scale UK aerospace force is incoming. (If you don't know where from you should not be invested here!)Failing that ,it is my hope that RR can survive long enough for some of their medium term strategic plans in small scale nuclear , electrics, fuel cells etc come to fruition. Without some positive news or an unexpected (and undeserved) rise in the SP in the short term I shall bail.

The Buy/sell split is merely an estimate , after all every transaction is both, trades are apportioned as a buy or sell depending on which side of the bid ask spread they fall .So
Bid 100 ask 101 deal priced at 100.4 is deemed a sell ,100.6 a buy.... BUT
Bigger trades get better prices ie
Buy 1000, price offered 100.6
By 10000 price offered 100.55
buy 100000 price offered 100. 52
similarly for sells, AND
in fast moving markets when prices are changing dynamically the spread and many deals are done at prices which may be microseconds out of date, and hence misattributed. AND
there are normally several market makers for each FTSE 100 stock and their bid offer prices will differ , if for example they are short of stock they will bid higher or if they have an excess they will offer lower
The whole process is a "best guess" which is often wrong and can only be relied on for a general view of events.
Others more attuned to short term trading will offer a more nuanced view but as my timescales are months or years the above does for me!
