Pearls...SGLtd bought the stamp via an interest free loan from Phoenix.
SG have the rights to a profit but they don't own the item debt free.

They could have bought a reconstructed sheet of penny blacks. On sale at an auction next week. Only £40k and it is at least a stamp everyone has heard of.

No one has remarked on this so far, I have taken from SG own website:

So in 7 years, the value of this stamp has FALLEN over a million dollars!

I suppose if they sell it for $10m then its $1m clear profit to SGI. I suppose they have wealthy individuals on the books who might buy it. The history of this stamp is pretty chequered, but a good PR stunt nonetheless and SGI will make something on the deal if it is sold.

This will get Pearls excited....

Only a modest increase in profits so a fairly unremarkable set of results. I expect this to fall back significantly, maybe into the 30ps again, where it would be much more interesting to buy.

I have a feeling the share price will not be treading water for much longer.

Surely this quiet time is the time to invest. When we get news flow again the share price will jump and likely hit a new high.

Maybe full fusion in 2035...

Pro's and con's in the results but I am disappointed by the market reaction today for this business which remains cash generative. Maybe the debt issues weighing more heavily than I expected.

Pearls ramping of SGI is not very effective. The share price hit 3p in December 2017 and has roughly stayed there ever since. It did have a mini spike to 3.95p last November. Sensible people would have sold out then. I might buy a few again at 2p so please start deramping Pearls.....

No Pearls. They don't own the material therefore their earnings are the commission obviously.

If today is similar, that will be £2m towards our previous annual turnover of £11m [last year], and we are only in May. There was approximately £800,000 sales from the earlier auction in April meaning just from auctions the turnover is perhaps £3m by mid May. Hence my £20m annual estimate.

Wrong Pearls, turnover will be the commission only, so about £600k on £2m. Its not total realisations.

This was true in the early 2000s when Chinese stamps were very big, but not the case now. Chinese stamps are still popular with the locals but prices and enthusiasm has definitely come down.

Lunq's quote from some dude about stamp enthusiasm waning from the 1980's is simply untrue. I started my stamp dealing career in 1983 and it has given me a very good living for nearly 40 years. The collectors I deal with are still mainly male, elderly and white but there is a new crop every year. The decline in numbers of collectors is only now picking up pace and for that reason SGI must find either a whole bunch of new customers or broaden its appeal somehow.

Mothercare SP has doubled from its lows, but is at extreme risk of bankruptcy, a bit like SGI really.

There is a common theme to Pearl's investment strategy emerging here....

It is completely baffling to me why anybody who goes into a retail store or pays retail prices for stuff ever thinks they are investing, whether it be First Day Covers which are virtually worthless after you have written your address on it, or coin year packs or a new automobile.

If you want to invest in something, anything, but something which is scarce, in demand and has a history of steady sale prices.
