RE: what a plonker4 Sep 2019 22:30
Its not often that I find myself in agreement but in this instance you are correct. We can do much more to satisfy demand for meat fish and produce from our own resources. it s the very possibility that we will not impose tariffs on food imports that has the farming industry up in arms. They have got used to the protection the EU gives its farmers by imposing tariffs on imports from outside the EU. There is no reason why we cannot increase our domestic output further still while at the aim time seeking export markets outside the EU for any surplus. The funds will be made available to smooth a transition. Of course its the Remainer fallacy that our leaving the EU will just hurt us and tat the EU does not need access to our markets. This is complete rubbish of course, you only have to look at the pending trade war between the EU and the US. It will get very bad for the EU as the US will target aircraft, cars, dairy produce and wine. They don't really have a trade deal and it certainly looks like they are not going to get one anytime soon. The remainers are doing the EU's bidding in trying to prevent us from leaving under a fair deal, which they politically can never be seen to offer. So the no deal FWIW will soon see tariffs discarded by mutual consent and without any fanfare. The EU think they are playing a clever hand but they are wrong to believe that while we used to be a pain in the a$se we will not going to be even more so if we are somehow held against the will of the majority. Nothing will get through the EU Parliament Nigel will see to that.
