Possibly. I think we are in somewhat unfamiliar territory here from an economic perspective. The conventional cyclical inflationary pattern seems now no longer relevant. IMO the inflation drivers have become muted energy is now multi so it’s impact is no longer binary. Economic thinking had no policy for a low s stable low inflation environment where rising input prices are just absorbed. We have a global trade war between the the worlds two leading economies which in essence has replaced the oil price shocks of old as the stifling input factor on economic growth. This is “new” and” unconventional” so will require some headscratching by those we entrust with the job of charting a way out of this morass. Not sure about any of three top central bankers which is a bit of a worry. FWIW I think China will come up with a way out and teach western capitalism another angle - confusius often has an answer- we live in interesting times

the FED moved too fast, worried about an overheating labour market and anticipating higher inflation I guess. Furthermore they could see the low interest rate trap that beset Japan for a decade or more. A fine line to walk between pragmatism and a US president that sees just a binary picture. That said at least the FED has the option to provide any stimulus that may be needed near term. Christine Lagarde hasn't the same luxury.

good points. The Dos is up about 58% in the lat 10 years while the Ftse is up 10% over the same period or 15% since the low we hit post Referendum. Given the heavy tech weighting in the Dow it probably brings again into question the valuation of these stocks historically and going forward. The Dow is long overdue a correction given that many of the new era stocks are unlikely to live up to value multiples assigned to them especially if economic head winds begin to impact advertising revenue. By the same token the FTSe has been carried by mining and oils over the last 10 years so any rotation into the defensives may see us retrace a bit more from here. That said, our bank stocks and house-builders valuation wise at least are n't particularly stretched and supported by pretty decent yield. imo of course

of course it will! Its a good bank unlike its EU competition. If we go into another recession there will be no winners but some will fare better than others and recover quicker. The US and China will come to an agreement before long as whacking each other in the shins will be seen as a zero sum game. The Eurozone will lag recovery as it still has not recovered from the last recession of 10 years ago and no fiscal or economic levers left to pull. Its not EU bashing it is the star of play as it currently is. A slow motion train wreck which has been in progress for years. There are two types of investors in TW imo those like us who invest on the basis of what we see the industry doing and are happy to take the dividend keep an eye on the balance sheet and margins. Brexit imo is a side issue and imo not likely to have much of an an impact on the first time buyer house builders given the need for housing nation wide. Construction numbers were weak again but also weaker than expectation at 43ish. Give the ex div tomorrow concerns over global growth slowdown it is not surprising that the sector is getting smacked given its weighting in the FTSE and liquidity of the shares. A pick up in Wallstreet in the pm should see a reversal as the day traders come out of the stock. We see this every month when the Survey data comes out so we should be used this by now. Brexit is just noise because first time buyers look beyond Oct 31 and given the Cos cash position we should not be fretting about it either at least as far as TW is concerned

Dealing with poverty is a genuinely good idea. In this day and age in this country poverty should not be an issue. That said, it has been a moveable feast as our open border policy has seen unchecked immigration places an increasing financial burden on our financial system as only a small percentage of the population bear the taxation burden. the income pot is finite and thus has to be spread further and further. It is obvious that while we attract migrants that come here because we are a just society in which they believe they can have a genuinely better life and future. We are therefore, in the nicest way.free schooling free health care, social benefits, a victim of our own success. The answer is to raise more income from the growing population base rather than whack yet more of the burden on those that by and large, create the bulk of the wealth. We now have an opportunity to rest our legal system and take the right steps for our country and its future and we should take it.
