Added to my list -
Imec announced that it has started developing a groundbreaking SARS-CoV-2 test
to identify SARS-CoV-2 virus particles in a person’s exhaled breath
- aiming to have a functional prototype ready to test summer 2021
Thanks Trillsg :-)
Deepverge have loads in motion...all cisterns go...steaming ahead in fact!
Canterbury-based techn firm Ancon Medical announced the trial of its Nanotechnology
Biomarker Tagging (NBT) system, to provide a breath test to diagnose Coronavirus.
"Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has started trials for a new test which could
tell if a person has coronavirus in as little as 10 minutes.
The new test, developed by ANCON Medical, would require the patient to breathe into a mouthpiece for
one minute so that a sample of the chemicals in their breath can be collected.
These chemicals are then analysed by a supercomputer and compared to those found in the breath of
infected patients. A swab test is also done to provide a cheek sample"
- doesn't sound like a scalable test
Northumbria University, Newcastle has secured regional support and funding for the next stage of development
of a breath test
"All patients have to do is breathe into the device, which is similar to a breathalyser, and it will retrieve
biomarkers such as DNA and proteins in the breath which have diagnostic potential for diseases of the lung
and beyond"
"He said that he believes the device could work in a way that sees people take tests on their doorstep and
upload the results to "a cloud" (cloud computing)"
"We would like to see somebody have this box at home, and they just provide a sample, the driver picks it
up from them", and the sample is put in the machine in the van, then "the cloud" says what's there, he said.
"That's the ideal scenario."
- still in development, and doesn't sound very well thought through
Canary Health Tech - COVID19 RT-BAP is currently in late-stage development and is entering multiple
clinical trial studies in Q3 2020.
"The Johannesburg study (patient study size - 150) will map the COVID19 signature bio-pattern and
evaluate the implementation of Canary’s investigational test and RT-BAP platform designed to detect
COVID19 positive patients through a single breath test"
- still in development
Does anyone else have any research on other breath tests in development?
If we're at phase 3 trials now with results due year end...will Deepverge be first to market with
a covid breath test?
Thanks very much Atlantic :-)
It's a fascinating period of time we're all living through at the moment, and I'm genuinely excited about the innovations
and changes that are happening that could ultimately make the world a better place. It's definitely an exciting period for
Deepverge ...Labskin, Microtox PD and Microtox BT are all game changing solutions with huge potential!
I do admit to leaning towards the positive side of interpretation...but the basis for that positive outlook is
following obsessive research! (I do advise everyone to do their own though!)
I've been trying to find and research competitors that are operating in the same areas as Deepverge...and i'm
struggling! to either find any, or find any that are as good, or that offer anything even close to the complete
end to end solutions that DV have on the table.
I'd welcome comments from anyone else who knows the water monitoring side better - are there any other companies
out there who have anything like Microtox PD?
Labskin - worlds FIRST remote clinical skin trials platform.
Microtox BT -
There are various rapid tests being developed - how many are Breath Tests? Not nose swabs or blood samples,
but a rapid covid breathalyser?
From what I've been able to find...
Cleveland Clinic and Astrotech announced they are developing a Rapid COVID-19 Breath Test
"The goal of the partnership is to develop a device that will identify COVID-19 strains
using breath samples"
- early stages of development, clinical trial months away
Breathonix Pte Ltd, a spin-off company from the National University of Singapore (NUS),
has developed a breath test to detect COVID-19
"A person only needs to blow into a disposable mouthpiece connected to a high-precision breath sampler.
The exhaled breath is collected and fed into a cutting-edge mass spectrometer for measurement. A machine
learning software analyses the VOC profile and generates the result in less than a minute"
- clinical trial ongoing, and more tests are required to further improve the accuracy of the technology
Israeli merged companies NextGen Biomed and Scentech announced it has successfully identified a number
of initial indicators of biological markers that could allow it to map traces of COVID-19 in the
breath and lead to the creation of a breathalyser test to identify the virus.
- still in development stage
The water rising institute posted a link to the following article on their facebook page
around the time that the DRAWQ project was announced...
https://www.bmj.com/content/370/bmj.m2599?fbclid=IwAR0m7hwCt3AWuStmBevC4wPlgQrEihq7SR6NOgou3yiv7pZY-2Z8VBcnp_k
"Details of other projects in the scheme haven’t yet been made public"
and Matt Han**** has said:
“This initiative is just one example of how we are working across government and with local
partners to find innovative, new ways to track the outbreak, slow the spread of the virus and save lives"
But this has also been stated -
"This detection system will now undergo full testing with real SARS-CoV-2 virus samples at the University
of Aberdeen. It is anticipated that this detection system for the continuous detection of SARS-CoV-2 in
sewage could be launched in early 2021 and will be distributed through Modern Water’s global footprint of
over 3,000 installations"

My interpretation is that the gov need to be testing wastewater right now, so they
are having to manually collect samples and data using the tools they have.
But Deepverges solution is in the pipeline for what they transition to.
We do already know that the Microtox units are being retrofitted now for trials in a number of sites!
GB has said that the people that need to know about Mictrotox PD know about it!
Successful trials = confirmation of orders
Note from the RNS:
"We continue to work with our EcoSystemOS consortium partners in the UK and overseas to bring
advanced AI-based wastewater detection and pathogen identification projects
from manual to automated real-time testing"
What are the government going to do...continue to pay people to manually collect wastewater and take it
back to labs to analyse (not real time, costly), or jump all over Deepverges Mictrotox unit solution?!! :-)
@GB - Indeed! The more I've researched and tracked the various Covid tests being developed, the more impressed I am with the Microtox BT as a complete end to end solution!
"The global quest to use a person's breath analysis for rapid, inexpensive and accurate early-stage
testing for cancer and other diseases has taken a leap forward"
"The treatment of regular conditions through home diagnostics will gradually become a habit, as people
realise the value and convenience they offer. By taking travel and waiting times out of the equation
and instead getting straight to the testing phase, home diagnostics can give us years back
in our pursuit of health, at an equivalent or even lower cost"
Imagine the future...wake up feeling a bit grotty and have that 'wonder if i'm coming down with something'
feeling, so you grab a virus detecting chip out the medicine cabinet and insert it in your microtox to do a
breath test, ask your partner to pop the chip in the scanner when they nip up the shop, you get the results
on your phone a short while later...bugger, it's the flu. You screenshot the QR code and send it to your
boss saying you can't come in due to flu, and message your partner to stock up on beechams!
With the Labskin and Microtox offerings from Deepverge, and plenty of growth opportunities in both areas,
Deepverge is a rather exciting company to be invested in I'd say!
In the grand scheme of things, when home tests start properly hitting the market, it will come
down to consumer choice. And the Microtox BT will be a market leader IMO.
They've been comparing Covid rapid home tests to being like the choice of pregnancy tests on the shelf...
so if we run with that comparison:
Pregnancy tests...
Available formats - Strips/dipsticks/cards, Midstream kits, Cassettes, Line Indicator kits, Blood tests, Urine tests
Distributed - online, hospitals/gp, clinics, pharmacies, supermarkets
Some of the major players - Abbott Labs, EKF Diagnostics, BioMerieux, Atlas Med, Quidel Corp,
BIOSYNEX, Prestige, Swiss Precision Diagnostics, Piramal Enterprises, NG BIOTECH.
Alere Inc, Church & Dwight, Geratherm Med, Germaine Labs, Kent Pharm, Procter & Gamble, DCC
Market Size - "The global female fertility and pregnancy rapid test market is expected to
generate $489.3 million by 2022"
That's a lot of competition in a large and still growing market, for a test that is only used by women!
Extrapolate that to imagine the market size for the entire global population using a home test, on a far
more frequent basis than pregnancy tests are typically used.
That's a big pie.
And the future of healthcare is swiftly changing as a result of Covid, so self testing isn't just going
to be a short term boom.
Covid has been the catalyst for the rapid shift to digitisation across healthcare including virtual care
consults, e-pharmacies, and home diagnostics for routine tests.
And for long term investors, healthcare disruptors are worth keeping an eye on...
"Big data and artificial intelligence (AI) will help detect illness, provide back-up diagnoses,
“triage” patients online and spawn a new market in consumer medical devices"
"Then there are surgical robotics, "nanobots" that aid drug delivery, virtual reality that trains healthcare
workers and treats anxiety, and 3D printing used in surgical planning"
"Even those changes are small compared to technology's effect on biotech. Gene editing and synthetic DNA
manufacturing will transform aspects of drug discovery and delivery"
“Everyone in this field is looking at the holy grail which is 3D bioprinted tissues
and organs that can save lives"
"Holon Global Investments co-founder Heath Behncke believes digital health will help developing
nations narrow the healthcare gap with Western countries. China's population is ageing rapidly
because of its one-child policy. China knows it won't have anywhere near enough doctors or nurses
to treat a population that will seek far more healthcare services in the coming years"
Stu & Pilgrim - Indeed, I did see the news about Omegas test in that they are continuing to liaise with the MHRA regarding approval for self-test home use. Still not available for individuals to buy yet - but only a matter of time I imagine.
With gov getting first refusal though, not sure how many will end up trickling into the consumer market in the short term.
Newuncle...errrm..
We are talking about HOME testing kits yes?
The Siemens one is authorised for clinical use, not home tests...
The test has shown 100% (91.8-100, 95% CI) diagnostic sensitivity and 100% (93.8-100, 95% CI) diagnostic specificity1. Sample-to-answer time, including extraction and generating the result, takes 2-3 hours, depending on the molecular system and lab resources employed. Up to 32 patient samples can be analyzed per kit.
From the gov.uk website, last updated 15th Oct:
"A self-test kit is one in which you take a sample, test it yourself, and then read and interpret the results yourself as well. This is different from self-sampling where the sample is taken at home but then sent to a laboratory for testing.
There are currently no COVID-19 self-test kits in the UK suitable for home use and it is illegal to supply them for use by members of the public. This is because no COVID-19 self-test kits have a CE mark. However, this may change if CE marked self-test kits become available"
GB tweeted this earlier:
"#DVRG is an #AI company, a #NASDAQ listing is on my bucket list

We will review when the breath test is in circulation
For now, "AIM Rules" Rule"
And I see some of our shorters/de-rampers are now banging the rampy drum :-D
Nice to see hints of the herd arriving to give us some volume - people starting to clock on to how much of a bargain this is at the moment, completely oversold!
...back on the way to blue da ba dee da ba daa
Have you read through the rest of the gov.uk website regarding Covid Tests?
The protocols for test evaluation, guidance to manufacturers, product TPP's, numbers of product in the pipeline (TVG) etc.
There is a MASSIVE demand for tests - it isn't a competition. The scale of requirement is huge.
As amazing as it would be, Deepverge, at least not in the short term ;-) aren't going to be able to produce rapid daily tests for the entire global population all by themselves!
And as Retire says - we need validation from live virus testing before things can really get rolling...patience :-)
Curious though TIT, are you short or long on this one at the moment? Or still jumping between this and MWG?
I thought support would have bounced this from 25/26! What's your opinion on the bottom?
Tweet from GB 25th Sept:
"Taken extremely serious. 100% of test chips are recovered and recycled in sealed hazard bags before removal from scanning unit"
and then again in response to the following tweet:
"Will the chips be reused/recycled to avoid being ended up in seas causing further pollution?
I am sure it will be and you thought it through
@gjbrandon"
GB's response:
"Yes, fully recoverable and thoroughly thought through"
Ahh whoops, you are completely correct Shandy - screen I was looking at made that an easy mis-interpret!
Ha yeah sorry, not sorry lol :-D
- I'm in the same position over in Deepverge at the min, way higher average than the lucky sods who are getting the chance to scoop some up at the bargain basement price its dropped to.
I think BMN will start to pick up some nice volume and momentum now though, hopefully with GS just about done, combined with a nice few Bushveld/vanadium articles recently, and with Ferro being ramped all over the place it's actually given Bushy a bit of inadvertent attention - and this is the better investment IMO :-) - You'll all be back in the blue soon enough!
@Paul - I couldn't help but wince for you as I trawled through RNS's last night I must admit.
There must be a feeling of wishing you'd waited to buy in at this dip...but who knew this is where we'd be! Crazyness.
You wouldn't be alone in that thought if so, or in having a twinge of regret not top slicing and buying more back in lower!
But cest la vie - we are where we are, and it is what it is as they say :-)
I have faith our deflation will turn to elation soon enough :-D
@NewUncle -Indeed.
Whilst the demand for testing is so huge and all the various tests being produced will certainly still have their place - I just can't envisage any of the other tests I've read about, working half as well as Mictotox as an end to end solution. And from a consumer point of view - way better than a nose swab or using blood or spitting in a cup lol.
Indeed. Although the last price Trium paid for shares of MWG was 2.9p (when DVRG were at 31.5)
Since then the DVRG SP has declined further so not much arbitrage opportunity.
I wasn't sure on the ISP trade which is why I tempered it with an 'according to simply wall street' - that's what they have listed, but could very well have been the Helium trades that referenced!
It's probably also worth considering the effect of possible quick profit warrant sellers:
22nd Sept - 42,500 shares exercised at 20p admitted to AIM
1st Oct - 82,142 shares exercised at 20p admitted to AIM
- 266,666 shares exercised at 15p admitted to AIM
8th Oct - 10,000 shares exercised at 20p admitted to AIM
I've just been reading a finance journal regarding 'Price pressure around mergers' to try and get
a better understanding of how the arbitrage between MWG and DVRG might be affecting the share price.
"This paper examines the trading behaviour of professional investors around 2,130 mergers announced
between 1994 and 2000. We find considerable support for the existence of price pressure around mergers
caused by uninformed shifts in excess demand, but that these effects are short-lived, consistent with
the notion that short-run demand curves for stocks are not perfectly elastic.
We estimate that nearly half of the negative announcement period stock price reaction for acquirers in
stock-financed mergers reflects downward price pressure caused by merger arbitrage short selling"
This is a re-cap of the trades the big boys have been making since the offer announcement on 28th Aug...
(At which point the last close price for DVRG was 4.05p, the last close price for MWG was 2.80p,
the 90 day trading average for MWG was 1.92p)
