There's been loads of progress, peace deals are being constantly spoken about whereas three weeks ago there was nothing. The US position is clear, the Russian less so, but we are now on the road to a peace deal being struck though will take weeks.

Really the SP should rise on the back of closer US Russia ties, and potential trade between the two, not the situation in Ukraine which is appearing less relevant.

Why would SP drop so much? If anything Trump is closer now to Russia than ever and normalising of relations. Ukraine starting to look less relevant to EUA prospects, more the increase of trade with Russia.

I think though this is all planned to corner Zelensky into a ceasefire compromise.

It's all part of Trumps art of the deal. Back away now and Ukraine will be forced to compromise down the line.

I'm not a Starmer fan but I thought he did well yesterday and played along nicely with Trumps 'art of the deal' approach. Could end in a good trade deal. My initial thought was thank god it's not Sunak standing there.

Can see a good reaction on the SP today due further ceasefire rhetoric and the Zelensky meeting.

This will be due to the latest US Russia talks today and Putins comments. Once a peace deal agreed this will shoot.

Trump wily though. He's already applying higher tariffs/sanctions on us and EU. These could be lifted if Russia sanctions are eased.

Don't mind a red day as long as there is positive momentum into the close. Over 6p going into next week is what we need. And there's the Munich security conference over the weekend where some positive vibes could help the SP further.

There won't be an RNS in the morning but possibly one would be released on Monday if a peace deal is circulated over the weekend, along the lines of 'we welcome this development, etc'. I hope not though as RNS's generally don't go down well :).
