RE: Botala CBM and MDCB investment8 Dec 2025 13:13
SAPP was mentioned as a warning to BPC who were looking for unspecified affordable electricity.
I doubt very much that TG was expecting to use SAPP but it was reciprocating BPC's similar threat to TLOU.
BPC realised that the only serious RFP was TLOU, and, if they offered us the only PPA in town , they would have Hobson's choice of where CBM was coming from , and TLOU might try to profiteer from a position of strength.
They wanted a rival , and Sekaname was the only other possibility!!! I know I read Seka said they'd withdraw if they did not get a sizeable PPA to make it worthwhile. Over 90MW did that ok!
Whether there was a market with SAPP was never clear , TG said it was simple but he would say that ,wouldn't he, if BPC were expected to screw us on price. TG thought there was plenty of scope to beat Aussie price of $12 for TLOU, and to reduce the cost for BPC when diesel was costing them the equivalent of $30 per unit.
Both preferred bidders were contemplating delivering containers of gas to power stations at the start.
In the course of the two RFP's , TLOU switched tack and were planning to deliver electrons to Serowe.
Seka stuck with their original plan , CBM in containers. Very different solutions with increased cost in money and time for TLOU. Poles and Wires stretched the critical path into the Covid era and stagnation. If we'd bottled gas for modified diesel generators which were designed for dual fuels, diesel OR gas , I wonder where we'd have been now?
Maybe a Mambo-Orapa pipeline? A fleet of lorries and a bottling plant? And Solar probably out of the question for a gas provider?
We can still build Mambo-Orapa pipeline , whilst delivering electrons to Serowe from either or both CBM generators AND Solar! And we'll hopefully have a decent income from the Data Centre to help fund expansions and avoid placings.
All that for less than a penny per share? AI + Solar + CBM powered energy and Donkey thinks I am mad believing 1p will soon be a bad dream? If Roald Dahl had written this into a children's book , I reckon kids would think the partners are destined for greatness and would buy shares with their pocket money. Roll on Kala's next progress report!
