I did add Shell today on the basis that it should be at the bottom - although there's no guarantee of that. Had I been in BP I'd have been more inclined to wait - but that's a chart thing rather than a view about the company.

There'll be significant support now and so it will take some additional pressure to shift RDS lower. Institutions (not PIs) control Shell's price - what is the return/risk balance for them now? The position is different since March and the traded volumes are much lower now. Here's RDS v Brent & Nat Gas over the last year:

I think you will get tainted views on the respective sites and, because I'm already invested in RDSb and looking to manage the average cost of my investment downwards, I'm rather too focussed on that to give an objective view of RDSvBP. In fact I don't follow BP at all.
I did note this comment in an article I posted yesterday on RDSb about Shell, BP and others in the Permian basin:
'A near-term deal also risks further confusing investors around Shell's transition strategy, which currently lacks the concrete road map of peers BP and Total…...' The writer obviously thinks that BP has better developed plans than Shell regarding transition to alternative energy. The problem is that the knife fell in March, so the market has 890 in mind - hence the 'gravitational pull' of a price the market feels is inevitable. Logical valuation goes out of the window - it had a long time back in reality. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy when both sellers and buyers start to feel a price is inevitable. https://invst.ly/sbi9l

A 40p range in a day has been seen recently but I'd expect any fall to be limited by the existing trends and hopefully go no further than 930 by the close (maybe with an intraday overshoot). I know that, because this is a shareholder BB, there's a tendency to be over optimistic - but it really does seem to be in oversold territory now. The dividend yield alone justifies a firmer price - a further divi cut seems unlikely to me.

Genel is a total punt for me Marfthew, though I've been in it one way or another for years. It has to be traded though.
Sadly, RDS is currently becoming the same, which was not my intention.
Straight answer to your question is I don't know. I have levels in mind which are really rather obvious: 930 is the nearest - as it's on trend with the March low - with everyone's favourite 890 a distinct possibility at the far end. The 40p difference represents 4.5% if I get it wrong - not a massive mistake BUT could it go lower than 890? I find that timing the market on the way down is a mugs game and I might even wait until its 970 again but defo on the way up. Much depends on how my cash is doing elsewhere, which is currently much better than here! GL

When socialism is applied honestly ‘for the good for society’ then it can hardly be faulted.
It’s when it is applied in a way that is restrictive to the individual and freedom that it crosses the line.
In the US huge numbers of people have no health insurance whilst this pandemic rages. Homes can get repossessed for unpaid medical bills. They pay this big price of ignorance because they can’t differentiate between socialism and communism and fail to notice that their taxes disproportionately benefit the wealthy in their supposedly ‘classless’ society. That’s the 'American Dream' apparently.

What is your take on Biden or Trump as regards RDS?
I tend to think Biden could be good for a number of reasons - tighter control of Shale for one and more restraint on US Oil Cos possibly. Although Biden is 'Republican Light' really isn't he? so he probably won't do the more radical things he's promising. I can't quite grasp why ordinary US citizens haven't figured out that the State and political establishment screw them and distributes their tax cash to the wealthy and corporates. I'm not a lefty by UK standards but I would certainly fall into that category in the US. It's language really - they can't differentiate between socialist, leftist and communist. We have a similar problem here but not quite so severe, although Tories avoid pursuing policies arbitrarily labelled as socialist.
