A really important paper for #LongCovid for 2 reasons:

1) 4 patients tested negative for COVID via PCR tests, but all 4 tested positive in the olfactory mucosa. Again, we can't rely on PCR tests alone for COVID status.
2) They were tested at *100-196* days post-onset
and of the 4 patients, 3 had a high viral load in the olfactory mucosa, suggesting viral persistence - which could be one mechanism for #LongCovid.

Furin and TMPRSS2. Especially with TMPRSS2 in most kind of cells. RNA lipid encapsulation delivery is non-discriminatory and endothelial cells expressing the S will fuse to each other.

Normally TMPRSS2 and ACE2 don’t coexpress, but with the mosaic pattern of the ACE2/TMPRSS2 cells, TMPRSS2 cells will fuse with ACE2 cells with the vaccine (mRNA). Forming syncytia is hich is both aneuploid and therefore likely cancerous, and also now coexpresses ACE2 and TMPRSS2

We're not paying nearly enough attention to mucosal immunity: we know vaccines will prevent #COVID19 illness but we could harbor virus in our upper respiratory tract (ie no liberation from masks)

There hasn't been enough focus on mucosal immunity w/ covid, such as why people get sick or do not develop symptoms. We can learn from RSV: prior inflammation, innate immune response, cytokine drivers, & T cells

I've said this before, but for the new wave of #LongCovid patients:

COVID reactivates old/latent viruses (shingles, mono, herpesviruses, etc). If you're a #longhauler, get tested for these reactivations so you can get treatment. (Might not be immediate/can be months post-onset).
