Despite yesterdays apparently good headline results, city traders were more worried about the grim outlook for this year. Trinity Mirror's national print advertising has fallen 9% since the start of the year while regional ad revenue is down 11%. Chief Executive Sly Bailey admitted Trinity Mirror is still suffering from the Coalition Government's decision to cut Central Office of Information spending, which she suggested was responsible for as much as half of its ad decline. "COI is down significantly. We took a large proportion of the COI's budget" she said, explaining that Trinity Mirror earned £1 million from COI in January 2010, and just £100,000 in January 2011. The future prospects for TNI are definitely not rosy in the short term. The COI shortfall is set to continue for the forseeable future, so the next set of results are likely to be even worse.

Think it's time to take out my initial stake and a little profit and leave the free shares to ride the roller coaster. Happy to have doubled my money in a week. ATB.

Without any firm news, which could be days or weeks away, your guess is as good as mine. Even if the offer does go as high as 900p it is likely to include a share in Sky news as part of the deal, so not sure you would get the full 900p as cash. If you would be happy to walk away with 820p and already have somewhere earmarked for that money then that may be your best option. It may be some time before a firm offer is made, and then we may have to wait a while for it to become unconditional before they start paying out any money. ATB with whatever you decide to do.

According to their website the forecast date for this to go ex-div is 23/3. No crystal ball i'm afraid as you would be only too aware if you spent some time looking through my investment history lol!! The only saving grace for me is that during the 70's-90's we had so much spare cash to invest that i was bound to hit one or two winners. Even though some of it is not now worth the initial investment, some of my dotcom U/T's bombed and are now worth half their initial deposits :( , there is enough left in the pot, now we are retired,to see us quite comfortably to the grave with a little left over for the kiddies to inherit. As for HMV, i am genuinely sorry for your loss as i'm not one of those that revels in other peoples misery. I took a look at the 5 year graph you can find on here and that just about said it all for me. Reports from people saying they had seen their local store busy didn't really cut it as there is nowhere else on the high street to go. Woolies were always busy, but it didn't stop them going to the wall. There are so many online places to go to buy exactly the same items cheaper that it is not hard to see why they are struggling. Even HMV online are not competitive!! By all means stay in and hope for the best, as it may be hard to sell and walk away with a loss. But, if i could offer one small piece of advice, it would be to think very carefully before throwing more money at it in an attempt to average down. Other people will be championing that route, and when you have bought into a share it can be all too easy to be carried along with the 'it can only get better' brigade, and to rubbish those that are saying 'get out' and 'this one is dead'. ATB with whatever you decide to do. THT not looking too rosy at the moment, just seems to struggling along bouncing between 90-100p. Maybe this is another retail disaster waiting to happen. Hopefully if they ever do decide to pull out of retailing they will keep making their yummy chocolates so we chocoholics can still indulge ourselves online.

Not well received by the City. Excluding GMG, group revenues were down by 6.9% to £710.6m, compared with a decline of 12.4% in 2009. Advertising revenues fell by 10% and circulation revenues were down by 5%. And crucially no restoration in the dividend. My (dim) views on this one are well known, so feel sorry for those in here who were expecting better from the results. ATB.

Even if it is a P and D it's a great way to make money. Buy on the up, don't get greedy, take a 20-50% profit and sell out. Currently up 75% from when i first saw it. Easy money. How do you make yours?? ATB.

According to the latest records i can find it does appear that he owns around 70% of the company. Someone somewhere knows something, unfortunately they are not telling us!!! ATB.

Hope you decided to sell as today's trading update has helped to knock nearly £2 off the sp since your post of the 16th. If you held then you may have to wait a while to get back into the blue again. But as you're a long term holder that may not worry you unduly. ATB.

Shares in Whitbread fall more than 5 percent after the company reports a slowing rate of sales growth at its Premier Inn budget hotel chain, overshadowing the 60 million pound acquisition of self-serve coffee chain, Coffee Nation. Sales at Premier Inn hotels open for more than a year rose by 5.1 percent in the 11 weeks to Feb. 17 -- a slowdown from the 8.7 percent growth it achieved in the previous quarter. Sales at Costa Coffee grew by 3 percent, which also represented a slowdown from the rate of growth previously. 'Whitbread's Q4 trading update shows a slowdown in the rate of growth at Premier Inn and some impact from adverse weather at Costa,' said Numis analyst Wyn Ellis.

St Modwen/Persimmon jv secures first planning approval at Wolverhampton. Wolverhampton City Council has granted approval for 314 homes with an expected end value of £50 million, to be constructed as part of the £150 million redevelopment of the 88 acre former Goodyear site, Wolverhampton. The joint venture agreement, established in August 2010, allows for 2,000 homes - with an end value of £300 million - to be built on seven St. Modwen-owned sites across the UK over the next five years.
