Whether it was a well considered sell or pure luck well done you called it correct. The problem with WTB over the years is that there have been too many share re-organisations with cash given back to holders, resulting in ever decreasing numbers of shares held and less and less invested in a very good company. If they had retained the cash, improved the div, maybe had a bonus share issue from time to time maybe we would have had a bigger holding in the company. Hope you get the rise by April that you are looking for. ATB.

Wyvil and zed44 both make very good points. As long as you don't have any debts costing you more than the 5.5-6% you will receive in dividends twice a year, then this will be better than anything you can currently earn in the banks or building societies. If you decide to keep the shares, and don't need the divs as cash, then look at taking them as new shares by signing up to their SCRIP dividend plan. With the div at 6% your total shares will double in about 14 years with no dealing costs, without taking into account any increase in the share price. As Wyvil says NG is a good solid company, there are currently no competitors for the leccy companies to use to move their supply around the country. Like all shares the price goes up and down with the markets, but NG is considered to be one of the defensive stocks which tend to perform better than most when prices fall, due to the fact that when people make cutbacks it tends to be the luxury items which are cut before they start saving on their gas, leccy and water bills. If you can hold for the long term you should do very well. Even if the sp is the same in two years time as it is today then you will still have received the 6% in dividends. If you can invest the money elsewhere to get a better return then please share it with the rest of us. If you read back through the posts for the last month and check out some of the links you will see that there has been quite a bit of press coverage on the new Tata Pixel which features a Torotrak transmission. This, along with increased revenue from existing agreements, has helped to push the sp up. Hope you are in. ATB.

Have just read back over the posts in question. Thankyou, i really don't know what to say - and it takes a lot to shut me up - so i'm your favourite poster eh? Well you would certainly be right up there for me, along with wag7 on MWH, i always seem to have trouble keeping my posts within 3000 characters when i talk to you. Not sure about the Aunty tag but see a lot of people refer to you as that on HMV. Always thought of you as an equal, but see that your dealing is far in advance of anything that i do. Glad that you have re-couped some of your losses, just hope it isn't some sort of bounce and it later continues it's downward trend. Interested by Netleys comments and surprised that he/she is also still dealing in certificates - i thought i was the only one!! We have exchanged views once or twice, but i've always been wary of what to say to vastly more experienced posters than myself - i know my place in the pecking order!!! I was indeed a nipper when i made my first purchase of BP shares, having just turned 18. My best mate at the time and myself used to dream of ways to become rich. We always wanted to become 'names' at Lloyds as back in the 70's they used to make shed loads of money for doing absolutely nothing. Of course all that changed in the 90's and many were wiped out, but as as young lads in Devon it seemed to be the only way to go. I used to pretend i knew what was going on by reading the FT at w/ends, although 35 years on, i realise that i still know very very little. So when HM Gov decided to sell off some BP shares i jumped at the chance and have been hooked ever since, Although these days, as we are now both retired in our early 50's, i shall be doing a lot of selling to provide the funds for our retirement. This could turn into the Choppy2/Bonz1957 mutual appreciation society, but it is nice to have a decent conversation with a like-minded person on here from time to time. There's too much bull**** and name calling at times, it doesn't have to be all cut-and-pasted news updates. ATB.

Thankyou for your very kind wishes, much appreciated. It's the 31st, one day later and i would have been an April fool's baby - some would say that would have been more appropriate for me lol!!! Did indeed go into the branch in Barnsley and bought the Mother-in-Law a big box for Mother's day, along with quite a few tasty bits for myself as a treat. Did like the look of the massive chocolate bunny, but at £50 decided it was a little too much even for me - might pop in after easter to see if there any reduced ones. We were hoping she might have opened them early to share with us as we travelled back today, but she was keeping them firmly sealed until Sunday - rats!! My good deed for the trip was to sort through all of her paperwork. She seems to file most things in the bin and keep the junk. Plenty of phone bills from 2002/3 but no copy of this years water rates or any recent bank statements!! But i did find an old Halifax account that had over £16k in it that she had no idea about, and still she wouldn't open the choccys early!! Problem is as the account had matured some while ago it has been 'resting' in a matured account earning all of 0.1%, don't you just love the sly ba5tards!!!! She is 86 and quite forgetful, except when it comes to chocolate. Biggest smile of the w/end was when i gave her a pack of 4 Cadburys bars - all four had gone by the end of the day!! If you are interested in the Sipsmiths Gin and Vodka then the cheapest place we have found is Majestic - some branches still have a limited supply of the 2010 Sloe Gin - only problem is you have to buy six bottles, but can always make that up with some decent bottles of wine. Will have to go and read back over the previous posts on your other board to see what was said about me now. Having been away for 5 days i've a lot of catching up to do. Whoever it was on here banging on about it going to 250p has long since gone. As a tipster he was pretty hopeless as he was bigging-up LMR, and they have gone down!! Probably hiding in a darkened room licking his wounds!!! ATB.

Government Help with South West Water Bills. 23 March 2011: Pennon Group is pleased to note that in today's Budget the Chancellor announced that the Government will bring forward public money to reduce water bills in the South West, particularly for those on lower incomes. Pennon's subsidiary, South West Water, welcomes the Government's commitment to address the issue of unfairness of water charges in the region caused by three per cent of the population funding the clean up of 30% of the nation's bathing waters since 1989. South West Water awaits more details on how much support will be allocated and when it will be available. The company will continue to work closely with the Government to examine the practicality of options to help customers. Good news for me as i live in the SWW area, and my water rates would be over £1200!! - more than my Council Tax - were it not for the fact that i'm on a meter and harvest all rainfall for external use. So hopefully i should see a reduction in my metered water charges. In London we would only pay £300!!! Only time will tell what effect this will have on the sp. ATB.

Shares in housebuilders rise after UK finance minister George Osborne unveils a new shared equity scheme aimed at helping 10,000 first-time property buyers in his budget. Redrow, Barratt Developments, Taylor Wimpey, Persimmon, Bellway, and Bovis Homes rise between 2.7 and 0.2 percent. Panmure Gordon analyst Rachael Waring says the incentive is similar to the Homebuyer scheme introduced by the previous government in 2009/10. 'I don't think it's transformational for the market (...) but it has to be seen as a positive for the housebuilders,' she says. 'They can share the shared-equity risk with government, freeing up a little bit more of their balance sheet to get out there building again.

Not much good news here by the look of the falling sp!! And it's due to fall further on weds as it goes ex-div by 4.1p. Oh well i'll be passing a store on Friday so best to stock up before they go bust lol!! Sorry to see HMV still in the doldrums, although if you ignored my advice on topping-up and got in at 11p then you will be showing a nice little profit on that block. Had a little result on CSC the other week, but too little to make a really big difference, that island in the sun will have to wait. Have been keeping an eye on the risers board recently and there are quite a few which seem to be off of most people's radar. Think CSC was top of the risers for 3 or 4 days and no-one - except me - seemed to take any notice. So i thought why not, seemed rude to ignore it. It's now back down to about half of it's peak but it was fun to be in on the rise and sell out with a nice 100% profit. Reading one of your posts on another board the other day, and saw you were wise enough to have tucked some money away in ICICI a couple of years ago. Clever girl :) I had a couple of two year fixes with them and an irish bank, both at over 7%. Very nice while it lasted, problem now is when they mature it's hard to find anywhere paying even half those rates. Managed to get some away with the AA at 5.15%, the rest is now with the PO at 3.65%. Low interest rates are no good to me as i'm mortgage free, so a rise in rates cannot come quickly enough. Although, as i'm now retired and have no earnings, i'm able to claim back the tax deducted on the personal allowance of £6500, due to rise to £7500 in this budget, so shouldn't complain too much. Agree with you on brokers comments, very often made in their own self-interest, plus there is never a timescale to them. Still it would be nice to get a couple of good comments here, we need all the help we can get. Hope all is well with you, did you get into OE as you suggested? ATB.

The 'Scrip reference price' - for those of us who take our divs as new shares - will be announced on 23/3. So we should get more shares for our money if it stays at these levels.

As you bought Mon and it went ex-div today you should get the div, but best to check with your broker. The div of 8.65p was announced with the preliminary results on 10/3, will be paid on 27/5, and is not dependant on the sp. The 'Scrip reference price' - if you take your div as new shares - will be announced on 23/3.

Scary times at the moment. FTSE off 400 points from last week due to Japan's/Libya's/etc worries. How much further can/will the markets fall?? If we have a major nuclear incident in Japan, FTSE could easily go sub 5000 and take all shares with it. Not sure there will be enough time to recover to get the price you want. ATB.
