Busy in here all of a sudden :)
Some decent points made and I guess I'd pick up on the "missed opportunity" points by pointing out that when you're talking about (potentially) disruptive tech starting to eat the lunch of others who don't really do anything for their money but hold all the power (i.e. gig/theatre promoters) then there's likely to be resistance from at least some to any new tech possibly shrinking their slice of the (huge) pie.
That said, there is also the possibility that those who choose to take an isolationist position in the face of new tech end up (somewhat inevitably IMO) losing out by being left behind and that may well have been John Gore's perspective some time back - some people are for more forward-thinking than others ...
When I pointed to this some six or so months ago, I was suggesting that covid alone could change or accelerate things for MVR.
What I didn't mean by that was that I had an expectation that the very next week they'd be exclusively broadcasting a Jay-Z/Elvis Presley gig and making a billion bucks in the process.
What I was referring to was that even though nothing may change in the short term, the fact that the environmental constraints brought on by covid lockdowns would inevitably lead to people in power/money being forced to take part in conversations that they wouldn't have dreamed of doing just six months earlier, as alluded to above.
Just the fact that those conversations will, without question, have taken place during 2020 could be enough to force a tipping point of sorts where certain major actors in the industry(s) are far more open to new tech actually helping to dig them out of the almighty hole they're still in six-eight months later with no end in sight going into 2021.
In the last couple of months we've had a relatively high profile gig from Liam Gallagher, bought Napster (who are pushing at Japan right now) and signed a limited but exclusive deal with a leading/global SE Asian telecoms provider.
Are these recent moves indicative of the very type of conversations I suspected may take place last year because of covid?
Well I like to think so and while we're not going to know if there's a fire here until we see the actual flames, I kinda take the view that these initiatives are indeed smoke.
I've no more idea what happens next than anyone else but I do genuinely think this is worth keeping a very close eye on through Q1 and, perhaps, worth dipping your toes in at 3s to keep your interest up in the meantime.
