Agree, very one-sided, but better than nothing. Feels rushed, with both sides wanting a win of sorts for political reasons imo.
It's an important deal for car manufacturers with export tariffs significantly reduced, but 10% on most stuff remains. Obv we had a much better deal just a few weeks ago.
Listening to the other side, the Indians seem very pleased indeed about this unusually long NI exemption. Use a holding company and rotate staff every three years to undercut the competition?
That said, it's an important market to gain access to, but what we wanted was access for services, financial and otherwise, rather than goods.
Gov decided not to mention the NI situation on Gov website when the deal was announced, and are now refusing to publish the impact assessment, which is rather telling imo. Yvette Cooper wasn't informed either. Again, feels rushed from a Gov that wants a headline.
Reading across several papers, my impression is Starmer has been prepared to make concessions rather than stall for better terms.
