Not actually winning, but they eventually managed to whittle down the amounts paid to Apple and Kaist to undisclosed sums which were, presumably, less than the court awarded. A kind of win, assuming the amount they saved was more than the obscene legal fees they must have incurred through drawn out cases and appeal processes lasting years.

Their attempted defence looks weak to me. They are still trying to attack details of the patent wording and searching desperately for minor inconsistencies which might invalidate them. Don't think this comes anywhere near justifying IPR, and I hope the judge will send them a subtle verbal rocket, sending us to trial as favourites. Up the nano!

CF did say a few presentations ago that some would be "pleasantly surprised" by the results, so they are likely at the very least to confirm for the market the marked turnaround of Venn and hVivo in real numbers. Forward looking statement will see CF in raging bull mode, with this latest contract win acting like an injection of amphetamine - dangerously positive.

I would have thought the shortage of semiconductors means the semiconductor equipment makers will be trying to ramp up production, and therefore likely to be buying more from XPP not less? SP action seems dissonant. M&G dividend should logically be attracting more demand, with dividend cover of 2.44 it is high quality.

If you look at the annual report, and the financial supplement, their definition of Capital Generation includes a number of things, and there seems like quite a lot of wiggle room for accountants to adjust the figure by moving things about. This is a strength of the business model, and gives me some confidence that they will be able to announce the achievement of the £2.2Bn on the due date, whatever happens to the underlying capital generation. The fact that the underlying figure dropped last year may be the reason more institutions are not buying for pension funds yet, still waiting for M&G to prove long term sustainability and meet their criteria?

Regarding uses of capital, there is also lots of information in the report: digital transformation to save costs, overseas expansion, "fixing Retail Asset Management" (a refreshingly frank admission!) The acceleration of moves into wealth management which Jatw mentioned is an important one.

If you read the court documents, then how do you arrive at 50:50 chance of success? You are the one who posted misinformation about "copyright" here, not imaginary "rampers", so perhaps you are projecting your own guilt about that rather than being realistic in your assessment. Nobody here is advocating "putting lots of money" into the share, so I'm not sure why you assume that either. Many of us were invested here before the court case even began for the same reason as you - the technology - and we don't need a lecture from newcomers about risk we are all well aware of.

That's wild speculation, based on an assumption of why the price has moved rather than any evidence. Most posters here are basing their opinions on court documents, which you ignore for some reason.

Good point alnista. Subtracting a dollar amount from a pound amount was a hopelessly inaccurate way of calculating value, and ideally the OP should correct it to avoid the possibility of misleading people.

My interpretation is that Samsung want an IPR either in addition to, or instead of, a trial. One of Nanoco's objections is that the trial is scheduled earlier, so any IPR (spring next year?) would be redundant. If Samsung got an IPR it allows them to spin it out longer, maybe a lot longer, because a 1-1 draw would probably give them grounds for an extraordinary amount of additional delay. Any sensible person would say, lets just have one body making the decision, and the trial is already scheduled.

Regarding Markman, our good friend nigwit, currently spreading joy on another forum, makes a valid point that only 15% of cases are settled at this stage. As this figure comes from no less a source than Mintz themselves, we ought to pay heed. Nevertheless, this case seems like it has at least a chance of falling into the 15%, and even if it doesn't, I'd expect Markman to significantly affect the SP one way or the other.
