One thing this does dispel is the nonsense about MM games. They had to buy the shares sold, to do that they raise the price to tempt other sellers to balance out with the sale as much as possible.

If they are then left with a surplus they adjust the price over the next few days up or down to clear their remaining holding. They don't do this on a whim, from BR instruction, or conspiracy, or to "sell to mates on the cheap". Its driven by the buys and sells.

The so called "poison pill" is a red herring. This is a US phenomenon. "Frustrating actions" are not permitted against bidders via the UK takeover code I believe.

It is not necessary for each sell to have a buy or vice versa. This mechanism is not really understood by many.

If I choose to sell a share and no buyers exist, the MM HAS to buy them. They then have 3 days until settlement to find a buyer. The spread is there sometimes to entice or deter one side of a trade. Because these shares are relatively illiquid this is seen as manipulation.

The time frame is irrelevant and it not a dig. Many people here fail to understand that some purchased in the 30s and maybe 40s looking for a quick flip.
