RE: Shareholders17 Aug 2022 16:55
The big guys, like Blackrock, seem to be reducing their holdings. The profit and dividend forecasts for 2022 and 2023 are down. Some forecasts suggest net profit in 2023 lower than in 2018, when the SP was around £33 at the end of the year. Only Last November, it was about £43, on China real estate fears, a sector that represents over 25% of the Chinese economy. The largest shareholder is Chinese (14%) and the biggest customer is China , contributing over 50% of revenue. On top of that, rising energy costs and a tight Australian labour market are additional troubles.
Very high iron ore prices have made the last few years very good for Rio and recent special dividends have generated too much enthusiasm and pushed up the price.
I would buy more bits of Rio but only at a safer price than that quoted today.
