Last year ACA formally announced their interim results on the 21st July - this Friday is 20th - would it make sense to make an announcement concerning a deal with GoT and the future of the company at the same time? They probably need all the info in the public domain before they can ask us as ACA shareholders to make a decision - especially if Barrick are not voting.

A fool and his crypto currency are easily parted! Now there is a market that has shown itself to be easily manipulated- a handful of large owners walk the price around to suit themselves. Not for me.

I foolishly jumped into that last big rise which has not helped my average price - I do believe that the agreement with GoT and a Chinese buyout will be announced at the same time as that just seems to make sense to me if both things are on the cards. You will have read that I actually believe that the share will be suspended on the GoT announcement and Barrick will make a paper offer for the ACA shares that they do not own - making full disclosure of the Chinese interest and leaving them free to structure the deal in a way that works best for them and their new Chinese partners - I think it would be crazy to make the GoT announcement allow things to settle and then make an announcement about Chinese buyin/out but either way we as ACA shareholders are going to benefit. I agree that all other gold shares have suffered but I do not think any of them offer the same opportunity of an uplift. As I look around at world events I am happy to remain in gold and would not take much encouragement to be convinced that the movers and shakers within the market have been deliberately walking the gold price down to take advantage of a big switch come the increasingly inevitable crash - but that could be months or years away. What do you think?

Thanks Treacle - I am very pleased that you see an opportunity here. I would ask you however to consider the limited downside compared to the massive potential - it is my view that you will not have months to accumulate at this price but more likely days or weeks. You are obviously doing your own research which is always a good think particularly for the level of investment you are considering but I urge you not to miss the boat, one bit of news and this will fly!

Treacle24 - thank you for coming to my aid - Simply Wall Street is a magnificent site referenced on many boards - and well worth a visit. Vijay thanks for accepting my apology - in answer to your question T24 has reminded me where I think I originally got the 2.8% I recommend that you have a look at the site. They value ACA at £4.07 but they are much better at this game than I am and very professional - I guessed at £5 less 20% giving me a £4 figure before adding a buy out figure by the Chinese taking target figure to £5.40 ish. Vijay - I am sorry came across as grumpy just trying to juggle too much today and taking it out on you. You have a right to ask for clarification - I will try and find it but I am pretty sure I am right at 2.8%. Anyway sorry.

The list you are looking at is the one I sent over to you on 20th June ish - it shows top investors holding 0.85% and above is is not an exhaustive list. I will do my best to track down the fuller breakdown but it has been posted up before and clearly indicates that private investors have 2.8% - I am not making it up - in the meantime you could always ask Acacia direct.

It’s true if you stay on a site long enough you end up repeating yourself time and time again. No offence Vijay but we have been here before. Barrick 63.9 - 33.3 institutional - 2.8 private individuals and yes I know institutions lend stock which shorters normally replace from private individuals to return to institutions.

I think we could probably speculate that there are at least 1% or 4.1 million shares currently being shorted. As there are only 2.8% or 11.5 million shares in private hands that means over 35% of the ‘free shares’ are shorted. Even without the anticipated news I think I will be adding!

Stock thanks for info on Ivanhoe which I had not seen. As Glencore can attest mining in DRC is even worse than mining in Tanzania. I am of the belief that only the Chinese can operate successfully in such places and a large part of that is because they are willing to invest in infrastructure and have a very long term view - we investors expect to be able to dip in and out for short term gains. Our market price is an absolute joke and does not reflect the value of the proven reserves.

Stock - GoT have asked for 16% and we may agree to something but however it is done I think it will form part of the 50/50 deal. Remember Ashanti claim that they are already paying GoT at a rate of 54%. The problem is that this has been dragging on for so long that we all (myself included) forget what has or has not been agreed/announced/suggested/proposed or is still under negotiation.

Denby - Only a fool would argue that so far your decision to short has paid off but the game is not over yet - I don’t mind anyone making money and the shorting has reduced the price massively allowing many of us to buy more shares which we may not otherwise have done - it is all part of investing. Ramping by shareholders where private investors only hold 2.8% of the shares would be fairly pointless and I do not believe that was ever the intention - I post as a release and as a way of marshalling my own thoughts, I am sure Super and others post for the same reason and not trying to ramp. Buy Sell Short or watch from the sidelines the choice is really up to you.

Stock - Everyone is perhaps forgetting that the 16% forms part of the 50/50 deal and like the potential $300m would not have to be paid/issued in one go and could potentially be accounted for from future earnings - less of course as pointed out by Supercharger any payment received from the insurers. I did a similar deal once issuing shares to a latecomer and we dealt with that by forming a subsidiary and issuing shares in that company paid for by dividend income from the new co - I am sure ACA could do something similar if it comes to it.

Well Stock - my guess holds no more value than anyone else’s but you did take the trouble to read my comments on the 2016 year end forecasts. Presumably if things went back to how they were before the intervention from GoT then say £5 less 20% for potential improved GoT (as a maximum) then plus say 35% for Chinese buyout would get us to a sale price of £5.40 but I think ABX would be crazy not to offer something like 2 ACA for a new ABX share. As I said all just guess work but I am as certain as anyone not directly involved with the negotiations that whatever the price is it will be considerably higher than it is now or what most of us paid.

You will understand if I do not wish you well Denby - in fact I would be rather pleased if you increased your short position. On a more positive note about the future of gold; Kevin Dushnisky, President of mining giant Barrick Gold: “Falling grades and production levels, a lack of new discoveries, and extended project development timelines are bullish for the medium and long-term gold price outlook.”

Smilers - it must have been difficult to stick with it and your paper losses must give you concern. I know you will feel pretty low right now but I honestly believe that you can still walk away with a profit - if you are not able to average down then all you can realistically do is wait it out - whatever deal is announced will raise the share price from where it is now. CEY on my watch list. Gold always does badly in summer months - apparently the gold futures shorts which have to be matched to long positions are now full ( 0:100) so the people who know about such things anticipate a strong rise in the gold price over coming weeks and months - must be a good thing.
