RE: Ukraine Peace1 Apr 2023 08:16
Given the war has been going on since 2014, this can hardly be declared a last stand. The battle intensity has increased, but if there was indeed any back peddling from the west and beyond in supporting Ukraine's defence against Russian invasion, all the new kit being supplied now would not have been donated. The kit now will go a long way to launching counter offensives, but also a long way to defending the lines with gradual push back over the long term. You certainly don't give away fighting aircraft if you intend to withdraw support a month later. All the signs, diplomatically, financially, militarily - from all the supporters is a settling for the long term. Russia is being rapidly depleted of strategic kit and anything high tech and will be acutely aware that resources deployed along borders elsewhere are being sucked into Ukraine. A lot of Russian enemies are watching the demise of the Russian army and it won't be long before skirmishes leading to extended fighting light up elsewhere and Russia finds itself fighting on multiple fronts.
As for going nuclear, they may try and finally get one to go critical, but that will result in a major escalation which the west will not run from. Russia has become an ever increasing problem and if it decides to go nuclear then it will have to be taken out with full invasion and occupation. China will take large parts of eastern Russia, NATO will liberate most of western Russia and the central and southern regions taken over by caucuses and central Asian countries.
The world will not return to a cold war scenario. Read the Chinese mood music!
