I too am concerned about this 2% figure if bad weather comes in for any period or labour rates go up, in a market like this can easily happen or material costs go up very unlikely to go down. On top of that there are always other unseen problems, now unless they have factored all of the probables you are asking for trouble not enough margin in my opinion. The only reason for them to come out with this figure is if the profits are higher they will look good.

Hearing mixed views on site or sites from some site agents some house builders have put projects on hold others are carrying on full steam ,seems to me if we get a remain result a mini boom will happen not necessarily good I think we need to keep the build going as is and let wages catch up so people can buy the houses and live within there means! Compared to this time last year the weather has been good and everyone I know in the trade is flat out so the production should be up from last year. Production up quants up= profit up no brainer

Hi benbuild it’s always good to have a rant on here or on site it’s the only way you get heard sometimes but hey it does seem to be them and us . Back in 1987 I got my first pqa award everybody got one on site from toilet cleaner to site management and a booze up to suit. Last four awards got f-all not even a certificate says it all.Theres no I in team but there’s a big Me lol not bitter but just a point maybe they should start recognising when they have a good team!

Hi tom I watched that programme and where there was no mortar left in the bed joints was mainly down to not filling your toothings as about the rest of the mortar I think they should show the reports on when the work was done!ie was it freezing also who supplied the mortar and if it was silo or ready mix . Because the reason I say that is ready mix delivered on a Friday will have 72 hr ******ant in it and if it’s frozen all weekend it’s shit come Monday just a point that might need clearing up. But hey it will all blow over

I appreciate what you’re saying as I have been a bricklayer for 31 years when it was a mixer and that’s it . Problem is it’s now silo or ready mix and when you do complain a rep might come out three days later and say it’s in tolerance. Same with the Brick’s they can vary in size up to ten% so people just give up complaining because the site agent has a program to keep up with and ends up saying just get on with it your always moaning so now you just get on with it and you let them know what you think . Anyway the problem is that person who walked off probably won’t get a job with that house builder again but hey ho the mortar company probably will get hit with a bill gla

It will be damaging short term house builders will have a clampdown test a few cubes of mortar then a bit of huffing and puffing then back to normal always the same! Good time to buy in
